A Man and HIS Newspaper, November 27, 2006
This review is from: Raise Hell and Sell Newspapers: Alden J. Blethen & the Seattle Times (Paperback)
As you know, ALL history is local. It is through local history that we can better place national and international events. Alden J. Blethen was a man born out of the American expereince of hard work, working harder when you have to, and making sure that your opinion is heard.
Like the internet blogs of today, journalism in Blethen's day was loud, personal, at times unprofessional, and so many wonderful shades of yellow.
For those interested in the history of Seattle, this is a must read. It is very well written. The research is top notch and the footnotes are great. The photographs and other matterial used in the book are great.

Fantastic book!, May 6, 2010
This book is the only book about Blethen that I have seen. It is very well written, and the information in it is far more than I could find anywhere else. Blethen was definitely an interesting person; he never stopped trying to make successful businesses, and failed at it more times than most people would try to start a business. If he hadn't come along, I don't know where journalism would be in Seattle today. I would definitely recommend this book for anyone interested in the history of Alden J. Blethen, or the beginnings of the Seattle Times, or in fact, the history of Seattle.
