5.0 out of 5 stars The most awesome parenting book out there!!!!
Make this be your first (and last?) parenting book! This would make a great gift to anyone with children of any age. I absolutely adore "Raise Your Kids.."--it's truly the best parenting book I've ever read, and I've read many. Everything in this book that I've tried works--go figure! One might think, oh, right, another parenting book, how can there possibly be something...

1.0 out of 5 stars Some of it is positive, but overall bizarre & nasty
The author's tone is strange. Some of the things she says are positive, like trying to make more than 80% of interactions with your child positive. But a lot of it is weird. She says that not only is it "child abuse" to raise your voice but that you should never display anger in front of your child. I certainly don't agree with spanking or belittling children or...

Make this be your first (and last?) parenting book! This would make a great gift to anyone with children of any age. I absolutely adore "Raise Your Kids.."--it's truly the best parenting book I've ever read, and I've read many. Everything in this book that I've tried works--go figure! One might think, oh, right, another parenting book, how can there possibly be something new in this one that hasn't already been said before? True, Radcliffe presents ideas on limit-setting and emotional coaching that are similar to "How to Talk so Kids will Listen" (one of the first parenting books I ever read), but what makes this book so special is its emphasis on building the right relationship with your child, using the 80% positive vs. 20% negative, envisioning the adult you want your child to become and encouraging those qualities you want him/her to have in adulthood. "Raise Your Kids" also addresses the very real issues of parental anger management and the importance of keeping your cool while disciplining your kids appropriately and respectfully, and, all in all, raising them to interact respectfully with other people. Imagine a world in which everyone spoke to each other respectfully, without yelling! This is truly a superlative book. I keep putting it on my husband's bedside table for him to read, and then I keep taking it back to look at it again. Enjoy--it's a great read, and the principles can be helpful in all relationships, not just those with children!

5.0 out of 5 stars Parenting advice that really works!, December 10, 2007
This review is from: Raise Your Kids without Raising Your Voice (Paperback)
This book teaches the difference between positive and negative communication and the proportion of each that is essential to establish good communications and maintain positive relationships with your children and your spouse. This very well written book contains many real world examples and situations families find themselves in, and lays out a plan to change the negative dynamics that have created behavior and discipline problems. The 80/20 rule and the 2 time rule are easy to understand and use, and the results that follow are immediate, gratifying and bring the joy back into parenting. I used these techniques with a difficult behavior problem I was having with a child, one that was ingrained for years that had not yielded with other methods, and my child made the positive changes almost overnight. In stead of being angry at me when I disciplined him, he was angry at himself for making the mistake, and changed his behavior. The discipline methods are gentle and loving, but firm and effective. The emotional climate in your house will become happier and your children and spouse will noticeably reward you the positive changes you seek. I highly recommentd this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely helpful, May 26, 2009
This review is from: Raise Your Kids without Raising Your Voice (Paperback)
This book is extremely helpful in dealing with kids.
I always was surprized why my eldest son cannot deal with little sublings. When they are asked to do something together he immediately starts to apply pressure on them, and they immediately stop listening to him.
However , when I apply pressure on my little sons (ages 5 and 6.5) they comply wery well with my requrements.
The answer is rule 80-20 !
We have to spend with our kids at least 80% of the time in the "positive" mode.
If most of the time when we are dealing with them will be pressure, reprimand, etc, nothing will work.

Learn to implement rule 80-20 in everyday life !

This review is from: Raise Your Kids without Raising Your Voice (Paperback)
I have to say this is the best book ever! I was give books by my child's therapists, i have read all of the popular books. This book not only helps you stop yelling but, it helps teach you positive reinforcement. Rather then traditional methods of discipline. I just have to say this is the one that worked for my oldest now if I could just figure out my youngest...

5.0 out of 5 stars amazingly helpful, October 18, 2008
This review is from: Raise Your Kids without Raising Your Voice (Paperback)
I am truly amazed by how helpful this book is. I never ever write reviews for books but this one really deserves one.
I have two teenagers that I am at loss with, this book helps alot, the only problem is remembering what I read at the right time. That is a little frustrating .
I truly understand why female animals eat their offspring.

4.0 out of 5 stars Loaded with practical information, January 24, 2012
This book is loaded with practical information. I really appreciate that the author has six children. She has to use tools that work for a harmonious home! I liked that she covers all relationships in the home and not just about 'disciplining' your kids. She addresses frustrations of parents in a way that is not insulting and is actually very empowering.
I will admit that I think when our children see us frustrated sometimes or raise our voice sometimes that this can be healthy. However, with this book we are provided with enough strategies that it doesn't have to be the norm of parenting.
I've read a lot of parenting books. I find the authors who have only one or two children have vague books with some unrealistic advice (though they may be beautifully written). Many parents I talk to with four or more children will tell you that you can have a couple of children who just don't 'push' your buttons or their siblings. Then there are other children who really challenge our skills as a parent and we need some advice from other parents who have really been there.
It's a great book all through.
