raised by humans---Spider John Koerner,

If you only can buy one folk album, let this be the one. From the Prelude to the Poem, this is Spider John's most cohesive recording. Everything he is known for is intact: the syncopated guitar pickin', the raw true-to-form vocals, and wry sense of humor--this CD is a must-have.It includes Summer of '88, the first song he'd made up in 15 years.

takes old stuff apart and puts it back together like it was not only new but hadn't yet quite been thought of three seconds before he started playing. on the beat and startling picking chops...

I love this album. Somewhere between blues and folk or a combination of the two, the rhythm and beat of all the songs on the album and Spider John's singing are wonderful. Listen closely to his guitar-playing. It is said that his system of plucking and strumming the guitar is one that he he invented and that he is in a class of its own. Accompanying instruments and the way they are played are great as well. How many times have we heard the song "Water Is Wide" (a favorite of mine), but when you hear it played by Spider John it might just become your favorite too. My other favorites on the album are "Summer of '88," "The Farmer's Curst Wife" and "The Fox," but you will love them all. Listening to this album as I write this makes me want to get up, dance, and stamp my feet, and I'm sure it will have the same effect on you. Spider John is considered a folk legend and you will know why when you listen to this album.
