I own three or four books on showing dogs and I have to say that this book is the most detailed book I've found on the "art" of the dog show. Major confidence booster because they don't leave out a single detail. There's nothing left to figure out, instead it is simply and concisely spelled out. For the novice (like myself) it's a live saver. I suspect that there are some valuable lessons for dog handlers of all levels.

This book starts at A and goes to Z. I was very grateful when I stepped into the ring the last time and the Judge asked for a "Triangle"...the illustration from this book came to memory and we did just fine though I'd never seen the pattern in practice or at a show! I highly recommend this book and I will no doubt refer to it many times over the coming years. I plan to utilize it as I raise my next litter and look forward to seeing the results when used on a pup from the very beginning!

I purchased this book and two others prior to showing my 9 mo. old puppy at a four day show with a Specialty in his breed. He placed Second in puppy sweeps on one day of the show and Reserve Winners on another day. In my opinion, my mentor and this book gave me a greater understanding of what the judges look for, how the point system works, how to work with my puppy in segments, and how to handle my dog in the ring. Some breeders at the show said I did fine, my puppy did fine, and that we were a team in the ring.
It was a very exciting and satisfying experience and I look forward to learning more from this book in the future. I am a beginner and there is much to learn.

I've been showing dogs and taking the occasional conformation classes for years. If I had this book when I was first interested in showing dogs, I would have saved myself years of learning. It's all there - from the biggies of stacking and gaiting to minute
details on filling out entries, selecting classes to enter, and even what to take to the show. I would even recommend it to people who just love going to dog shows, since it will give them a deeper understanding and appreciation of just what is going on there.

I am just starting out with my first show puppy. This book was recommended to me and I bought it. It covers some things that are not covered in handling classes. Great pictures of what you are doing right or wrong when stacking your dog. Lots of illustrations of the patterns a judge might ask you to walk. WONDERFUL book and worth every penny!

i can't get over the wonderful details and step by step instructions on just about everything! it is a very straightforward book for the beginners and i imagine it could be useful to even seasoned handlers that may have encountered something they want to fix in how they perform.
I am planning to get a dog to show soon and have had this book constantly recommended to me so one day at a dog show i broke down and bought it and i have never been happier! it really does explain it very clearly and concisely and certainly helped me decide that showing is definitely what i want to do. it was thoroughly enjoyable and i highly recommend it just as much as it was recommended to me.
