Book Description

May 2007
All parents will tell you they learn as much from their children as their children learn from them. This truth is poignantly captured in Raising Dad: What Fathers & Sons Learn from Each Other by father-son authors Thom and Art Rainer.

It was Art's idea to write from a grown child's perspective this tribute to his father's successes as a parent. Inviting his father Thom to write postscripts to these reflections, another tender truth emerged. Dad's memories about his own performance aren't nearly as rose colored, giving those who read the book great inspiration to never stop growing and learning as a parent.

All told, Raising Dad shares unforgettable lessons about faith, friendship, commitment, honesty, priorities--all the things that matter most in life between parents and children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Transparent, Vulnerable and Authentic, February 20, 2008

This review is from: Raising Dad: What Fathers & Sons Learn from Each Other (Hardcover)
This is the best book on fathering that you'll read this year, regardless of whether you're raising sons or daughters. Although the book is a shared journal between father and (adult) son, the principles explained here are valuable in raising daughters also.

Rainer writes with amazing transparency, showing us mistakes in his own attitudes, priorities, and behaviors. Because of that, we're able to easily identify with him --- we fail too; we fall short of being the dad we'd love to become. Any father of teens and older children will relate to Rainer.

At the end of your life, you'll want your children giving your eulogy. You'll want them to say "Dad loved me" and "Dad showed me what love looks like, in action." If you're a person of faith, you'll also want them to say "Dad showed me what God's love really looks like."

Meanwhile, if you live long and prosper, this book can help you make some changes in the way you're parenting right now, today. If you're a dad whose parenting is still in progress, buy and read. You'll be glad you did.
