More About the Author

While not quite retirement age, I have almost 40 years experience as a management and strategic consultant and entrepreneur, and fifteen of those years as an academic Entrepreneur-in-Residence and Adjunct Professor. I received a Ph.D. in 1968.

Until recently, I was the Owner/President for 20 years of a distribution company that I founded. I sold it to a regional chain.

This book provides a wealth of practical information about financing an early-stage business. It begins with a discussion of the various legal forms of entities, goes on to cover debt and equity financing techniques, introduces helpful approaches to valuation (not found in too many other books targeted to the early-stage entrepreneur), and then discusses exit strategies. There are also several helpful case studies, a sample term sheet, etc. I'd recommend this book as a great introduction to the subject of small business finance, and as a helpful guide to anyone seeking to raise money (with a competent business attorney by your side) from angel or venture capital sources.
