Great book for new parents!,

I found this to be a great help. In a society where many parents know very little about raising responsible, accountable children, this book gives very practical advice. There is no suggestion of a heavy handed approach. The results of the "let them raise themselves" approach surrounds us and confuse the very people who object to teaching children with secure boundaries when they are young. Highly recommended for first time parents.

The best book for raising children,
By Bonwon (Biloxi) - See all my reviews

The book was great!! I think people don't like the book because it causes them to look at what they're doing wrong as a parent. I recommend this book to all my friends. I read the book five years ago, and I have good kids. I even took in a troubled teen, and it worked with her as well as my own. She turned out great. I would pray before I would listen to all the negative advice. Read for yourself!!!

GREAT BOOK!!,
This review is from: Raising Kids God's Way (Hardcover)
We did a study for 3 months in our connection group at church on this book and it was a great tool. We are all in our early 30's to late 40's and really got a lot out of it. I would highly recommend it to anyone that has kids.

A great book. Every parent should read.,

It is great to see that there are some who are fighting the good fight.Even for those who have studied scripture well and heard many sermons on the subject, this book pulls together the great wisdom handed to us through scripture on how to raise our children and gives parents practical ways of training our children to make good choices in life. At some point, every parent has to let go and this book helps parents raise our children so that we can let go of our children and be confident that they will continue to walk on the right path.

What a claim!,

What I would like to say is that the Bible is silent about most of the material discussed in this book. The Bible teaches that we need godly wisdom in applying its principles, not someone to write a legalistic "how to" manual. Don't take it as "gospel"!

Distressing,

I found the whole thrust of the book most distressing. It seemed to teach parents to be harsh, authoritarian control freaks and not help them to attune themselves to their childrens needs and help satisfy them. Beware! Some damage done in early childhood often doesn't manifest itself till adulthood. Be sure to check out the qualifications of the author and the way scripture is used. It seems to me there is a hidden agenda and they are just trying to find scriptures to hang it on.

The only experience I have with this book is the two family members I know who have used it with their children. They both took the 17 week course offered by their churches that used this book as their text in different states by different denominations. Both sets of parents rave about this fabulous coarse. Yet, they are so detached from reality and the results of this teaching. Their children are incredibly aggressive and rebellious. The children were spanked by their parents since infancy and the oldest at age 17 was sent away to a boarding school after attacking her parents physically after being caught having a secret abortion. The other two are ages 8 and 10 now and the 8 year recently threw a very large rock at her grandmother's face, hit her with both fists while shouting at her, "I hate you!!!" What caused this outburst? Grandma said she was going to serve her a dish of ice-cream rather than let her do it herself. The children regularly hurt each other, scream at each other and use the words, "I hate you" often. When their parents are present, the children are immediately punished- furthering the cycle of victim/punishment and oppressor/oppressed. Children that are oppressed, hit and treated like 2nd class citizens since birth DO NOT grow up to be cooperative, loving people!!! The damage of this type of child rearing is profound and long lasting. If this sounds like an enjoyable life, then by all means purchase this book. If however, you envision an enjoyable, loving life with your children and would like to live in cooperation and peace with each other PLEASE look elsewhere! And spare me- come on - God's way??? These children are filled with hatred, not love. What absolute spiritual arrogance.
