We bought this book because we are expecting our first child in a couple of months and wanted to know how to get our 1 yr old dog ready for the new arrival. The chapter on introducing your dog to the baby is very helpful, and they provide specific training activities to prepare your dog. I also found some of the general dog behavior explanations and advice to be very valuable, whether or not you have kids. I wish we had known about this book several months ago when our dog entered his "teenage" years.

It is organized in a very "reader friendly" way, and for quick reference when needed

If you were thinking of adding a puppy to your household because you have kids in the house, get this book! It could save you from making a mistake about getting a puppy, possibly saving its life.

Pia and Lynn cover choosing a breed that fits your household, why you shouldn't get a puppy to teach the kids responsibility, what it's like having a puppy in the house, and how you'll have to always keep an eye on the puppy and kids whenever they are together.

This is a great beginner's book to getting a puppy - excellent for before the puppy comes to his furever home. There are great tips in here that although slightly obvious are great to remember...like telling your kids not to run or yell because the puppy will think it's play/nip time and get overly excited. I especially like the paragraphs interspersed among the chapters that explain a particular situation, such as having a desigated place for kids toys where the puppy can't get to them.

This is a well written and informative book on the subject of bringing a new dog or puppy into a home with children. The information is well laid out in easy to reference chapters, and the pictures really illustrate what the "do"s and "don't"s look like. There is a helpful timetable for dog maturity so one can better understand where your puppy is in terms of emotional and physical maturity, and how that relates to kids. Whether your a patent with young children or a dog trainer/lover, there is much practical advice to absorb and use!

I refer to this book frequently to see various approaches to solutions for dog and puppy training issues. I recommend it to any dog/puppy training professional for his/her professional library. Applicable for dogs of any age, really, not just puppies.

Whether you have kids or not, this book covers the life of a dog from when it is conceived to senior years. Well written, easy to understand, and helps make training your dog fun and positive! No cruel methods are used! You and your dog will love it!

This was a good book to read with your children. It works well with any breed of dog in my opinion. It kept repeating the emphasis on playing nice with a new puppy, which hit home with my 6 and 3 year old. I wish it gave more information and tips on potty training though.

The book was OK, but just really a lot of common sense tools. I didn't find it particularly insightful, but there were a few good tidbits. I would say its worth it if you can find it for a good price, I would reccomend buying a gently used copy as opposed to a new one.
