It's been interesting reading all the reviews, both for and against this book.

Regardless of your feelings, this book should be at the top of your reading list if you have ever had any involvement with "The Plain Truth Magazine", "The World Tomorrow Program", Mr. Garner Ted or Mr. Herbert W. Armstrong, the Worldwide Church of God(WCG) or its offshoots. I don't usually write book reviews, but I have to say, this is one of the most fascinating non-fiction books I have ever read.....on several levels.

First, the book is a tell-all, no-holds-barred expose of the WCG vs. PCG court case telling who did what and when and it even naming those responsible for their crimes.

Secondly, this book has more twists and turns than a maze. It will leave you shaking your head in disbelief. This book proves once again, that fact IS stranger than fiction.

Thirdly, this is the true story of how just one man and a handful of supporters stood up and took on an organization with tens of thousands more people and thousands of times more money.....and against all odds got all the books they so desperately wanted and more. Don't believe in miracles? You think one person can't make a difference? Then you need to read this book. It WILL change you.

These story lines alone would be enough to make this book a fascinating read, but wait, there's more! It is also the story of how a few of the most talented con-men of all time conspired to take over the WCG and then lied, charmed, misled and deceived their way to the top. Next they hoodwinked over 100,000 church members. And then finally, with a cadre of Hollywood lawyers, they successfully lied and manipulated their way past judge after judge in the court system and walked off with hundreds of millions of dollars!

A real life story, that staggers the mind. It gave inspiration to this underdog when faced with insurmountable coruption to hang in there in faith until my foes simply hung themselves. I have not been this excited by a book in a long time. A real page turner and

a must read for every student of law and life.

It is a superb read for anyone who has ever seen or heard of Mr. Armstrong and his worldwide work. What on earth happened after he died? Why did it happen? How did it happen? Riveting and powerful, well researched and masterfully written. A truly enlightening journey to discover the truth behind the failure of "Tkachism."

The events that transpired up to the writing of this book are nothing short of spectacular. Unlike many other courtroom thrillers, The story in these pages is relentlessly refrenced. The facts themselves are enough to tell the story and need little assistance from the Author. Although as narrators go, Mr. Stephen Flurry is a comfortable travel guide. Having read through this book myself, i can guarantee that if you approach it with an open mind, you will be hard pressed to put it down. And when you do, it will nag at you until you pick it up again. The little known facts of this story will have a special relevance to those involved, but by no means is this a closed door event. Even people with no interest in religious tommyrot will find this a compelling read, showcasing all angles of human nature. I am genuinely sorry for anyone who passes up this story.

To begin with I am a member of and thoroughly support the PCG along with my happy wife and two well-developed and competent children!

I hope most common sense people don't believe the derogatory comments like those of "helenig"'s below!

Simply put Mr. Flurry's book makes Plain Truth of what actually happened before and after Mr. Armstrong's death, as the empire that was raised up through him crumbled under the selfishness and vanity of a few of Tkach's fellows. Anyone that was affected by the scandalous acts and behavior or Joe Tkach Sr. and Joe Tkach Jr., and there fellows, needs to read this book. A few men at the top, opposed to HWA's teachings, committed every deceitful trick in the book to destroy what was built through HWA and then lie about it like little children, in and out of court, to hide their true intentions. Leaving a wake of mental, emotional and spiritual trauma in the lives of tens of thousands of unsuspecting members.

Read all about it as Mr. Flurry uses letters, memos, court documents, personal interviews and other sources, along with his own personal experiences, to take the reader on a very easy to understand, factual and riveting journey from prior to 1986 and up to the present. I couldn't put the book down. I wasn't in the WCG when most of the treachery occurred. This book filled in the gaps. I am reading it for the second time. I hope and pray that Mr. Tkach, Mr. Schnippert, Mr. Helge, Mr. Feazell, Mr. Ward and others are embarrassed by what they did and how this book exposes their relentless pursuit to step all over the world acclaimed and well respected work raised up, and through, HWA. This is only the first step in true justice. Thank you Mr. Flurry for your hard work that you put into this book, along with the support of your father, Mr. Leap, Headquarters staff and a few thousand scattered brethren throughout the world that are "Raising the Ruins".

Stephen Flurry does a superb job in compiling a courageous expose` of the real life story of the Church of God since the death of Herbert W. Armstrong. He backs up his presentation with pages of references. This would make a great novel, but the fact is that it is actually documented history and a sneak preview of what is ahead. He skillfully weaves a compelling story from personal recollection, eyewitness accounts and documents related to the PCG vs. WCG lawsuit.

This book exposes the hypocrisy of the leadership within the church after the death of Mr. Armstrong. Prepare yourself for earth shaking first hand accounts revealed about the downfall of the church. The author unveils the shocking, sickening, reality about the deliberate, blatant lies, foisted on the WCG membership and the total disregard for God and His work. Tkachism's nakedness is exposed and only portends to be the beginning of the pitiful end. The cat is out of the bag and is certain to instigate unimaginable repercussions.

Raising the ruins is a timely book that is invaluable to anyone who considers themselves a part of the ruins left behind in the wake of this travesty. It gives the only possible explanation about the catastrophic destruction of the church. More importantly, it gives hope, encouragement, and direction on how to rebuild upon the foundation laid by Herbert W. Armstrong.
