It's a good book but it has been revised and updated under the title "Storey's Guide to Raising Sheep." I didn't know this - bought the Storey's Guide, but sheep breeders kept recommending this one. So I bought it too, and then learned that it's simply the previous version of the Storey's Guide. So buy the newer one.

Raising Sheep the Modern Way covers everthing from breeds of sheep to recipes. It is a must read for anyone new to raising sheep, and is a good reference book for the experienced shepherd as well. I have been in the sheep business for 14 years. I purchased the book when I bought my first ewe, and I still refer to it a couple of times each year.

This is some serious book, no wasted pages here. From chapter 1 to the end is a steady flow of information. The Pictures are clear and plenty. This book is an excellent book.

I got this book to read and STUDY before we made a decision to get a sheep. (1) as a pet. Now, I want to get 2 for breeding. The book has everything you need to know. We are waiting until we get everything set up like the book says. I highly suggest you read this book BEFORE deciding to get a sheep.

A must for anyone who is starting up a sheep herd. It is a must before you purchase your sheep as it tells you about breeds and what the breeds primary use is. Gives you basic vetinary help and a list of basic supplies you need for lambing season.

I give this book to every person that I sell one of my miniature sheep to It saves the new owners a lot of time and frustration with with their new pet sheep.I was told about this book when I first started looking to purchase miniature sheep. It saved me money on everything that I needed for the mini's.It gives a good over all on everything from buying thru birthing,feeding,fence types,shelters,and covers most of the breeds.It also includes some medicine advice.

I'm not surprised to see this book still in print. I know what sheep are but don't have anything else to do with them but enjoyed the book immensely when I read it many years ago at a friend's farmhouse in Beaver, PA. I am forever reminded of it as I walk the streets of Cairo, EGYPT alongside sheep, goats and otherfour-legged creatures. Maa salaama.

I love this book. It was easy to understand and wonderfuly filled with facts that everyone could use. This book covered everything from A to Z. The book was easy enough for teenagers to read but stisfying for older readers. Being 13 i thought this was a REALLY GOOD book.

Like the title states this is another standard cranked out by the folks at GardenWay publishing, now don't get me wrong their information has been the staple for many a years and is still very useful today but this publishing house is not exactly known for their updating. Paula Simmons is a figurehead in her field and has some truely great advice and experience to give so listen to it folks even though it may be as old as your sheep's great grandsire. Defineltly a book anyone new to the livestock industry should have around for constant checking and even the occasional read through, I am a firm believer in information and research and so believe that even dated material is important. So if you are truely interested, buy this one for reference and keep building your library, do your own research develop a foundation of knowledge and no matter what your flock encounters you can overcome it and you can look happily out at your beautiful lambs one day and say with pride " I did it ".

This book is the ABSOLUTE best source of information for the new sheep herdsman! Packed full of all the information you could want or need. I highly recommend it.
