Book Description

April 20, 2006
Every parent of twins knows that raising them can be full of unique challenges. Getting through the first twelve months may be especially difficult, but that is only the first hurdle. In Raising Twins After the First Year, author Karen Gottesman, a mother of boy-and-girl twins herself, guides parents through the many specific issues they will face as their twins grow from age one to ten. She covers ways to deal with "the terrible two's times two"—potty training, the legitimacy of cryptophasia (twin language), sibling rivalry, managing double mood swings, how to start to give your twins independence, and much more. Completely practical and down-to-earth, Raising Twins After the First Year will be a useful and comforting resource for every parent bringing up twins.

3.0 out of 5 stars Looking for More, September 13, 2006
This review is from: Raising Twins After the First Year: Everything You Need to Know About Bringing Up Twins - from Toddlers to Preteens (Paperback)
I was so excited to get this book and when I got to the end I was still waiting for the tricks and advise to the many issues I am having with my 21 month old twins. The author has some good stories and thoughts that pertained to her situations. I didn't seem to find the answers or comments to any problems I was having. I wish there was more info on the problem stages instead of a little info on every stage. I had to stop reading after about a third through the book because I didn't need info on age 5 + yet. I should have gotten a book about toddler issues and then later in life, when needed, buy a book on preteens etc.

The book was a good read but not what I was looking for. Try "Ready or not there we go" by Elizabeth Lyons MUCH better for toddler twins!!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing... Very elementary advice, June 29, 2007
This review is from: Raising Twins After the First Year: Everything You Need to Know About Bringing Up Twins - from Toddlers to Preteens (Paperback)
When I saw the title of this book I was thrilled -- it was exactly what I was looking for! But I was very disappointed when I began reading it. I hoped the book would get better with each chapter but it only got worse... The chapters based on age are very limited and short. It was so basic and boring that I was shocked this book even got published. It explains many "no-brainer" to parents of twins. An example is that it takes the time to explain that fraternal twins were created with two eggs and identical twins with one egg. I'm guessing the majority of twin parents already knew that...

I would love to find a book that provides tips in raising twins after the infant stage -- but this book is NOT it.

I just got this book (my twins turn 1 in a few days) and eagerly read through the first several chapters. It was an entertaing, fun read, but I was a little dissapointed. I was just hoping for more tricks, ideas, and hands-on suggestions. Perhaps it will be more useful when my twins are older.
