Next to Elis Regina THE most incredible singer from Brazil in my opinion. The emotion which they both were able to express in their way of singing is unbelievable. With their Midas touch everything they touched with their voices turned to gold. Another thing unfortunately ties them together: they both died too early: Elis at the age of 37 in the year 1982, Clara at the age of 40 one year later. But where Elis Regina was more an MPB (Musica Popular Brasileira) singer, Clara Nunes sang almost exclusively samba repertoire. Both Elis' and Clara's voice give strength and function like a fountain of energy: every feeling ranging from extreme joy to terrible pain is delivered intensely. This music really enriches your life. This compilation is a very good introduction to Clara's music, as it mainly features pure acoustic samba from her best period between 1973 and 1978, which shows what she was capable of in the best possible way. And do not forget to check out Elis Regina as well, if you haven't already.

This is definitely one of the most amazing compilations I have ever purchased. If you're looking for excellent samba, you MUST buy this CD. She has one of the most beautiful voices, a voice that will ring in your ears long after the song has ended. Consider your love of samba in at least two stages, one before experiencing Clara Nunes and the other after -- the difference is like night and day. EVERY track on this CD will make you dance, sing and shake for joy.

This is the one of the best, if not the best, albums of Brazilian music that you will ever hear. This collection really showcases Clara Nunes' amazing voice and tremendous vocal energy in fine samba arrangements. This is wonderful music that bears listening, time after time, year after year.

This is the purest brazilian music. It's rio de Janeiro's samba in its most honest. The tracks are from 1971 to 1982, and Clara sings pearls by the gem of the samba geniuses, like Paulinho da Viola , joão Nogueira, Nelson Cavaquinho, elton Medeiros, Wilson Moreira, Nei Lopes, Mauro Duarte, Paulo césar Pinheiro (her husband), Alberto Lonato (of the Old guard of Portela).
Her sudden death in 1982 was a great loss to our music. Since then samba turned more commercial and less creative.
