Book Description

July 30, 2010
New York City vampire Rajmund Gregor is the undisputed master of The Big Apple. He bows to no one but his Sire, the Vampire Lord Krystof, who has ruled the Northeast for hundreds of years. But when Krystof summons Rajmund to his headquarters in Buffalo, Raj finds his master slowly descending into madness and his territory crumbling around him. Raj is the only one of Krystof's children strong enough to seize power, but he'll have to save his master before he can destroy him. Several women have gone missing and the local police are convinced a vampire is behind it. Is Krystof so lost to reality that he's capturing and murdering human women? Is a rogue vampire moving into Krystof's territory for the kill? Or is it something far more insidious, something that could threaten the existence of vampires everywhere? Sarah Stratton is living a lie. Her past holds a secret she shares with no one-not even her good friend Cynthia Leighton, the West Coast vampire lord's mate. It's a secret that could destroy her carefully constructed life as a professor at a Buffalo university. It's also a secret that could save the lives of the missing women. To save them, however, she must enter Buffalo's vampire community and put herself into the care of Rajmund Gregor. But can she trust Raj, the dangerously seductive vampire who wants to lay claim to far more than her secrets?

Editorial Reviews

Review

4 1/2 TOMBSTONES! Reynolds excels at smooth readability of narrative and tight plotting that pulls together the various aspects of the story into a very satisfying and suspenseful whole. --BITTEN BY BOOKS

"... full of dark power and rough primal action that'll keep you up late at night turning the pages. Her characters are genuine and damned likable, flaws and all." --Adrian Phoenix (author of A Rush of Wings and In the Blood)

"Smart, suspenseful and sexy. D. B. Reynolds' characters linger long after the last page." --Kelley Armstrong (NYT bestselling Author of the Otherworld series)

5.0 out of 5 stars 4.5 stars for Rajmund August 12, 2010
Format:Paperback
Krystof is the Vampire Lord of Northeast. He is losing his mind and his dragging his terriotory down with him. Rajmund Gregor is the master of New York City and the only one capable of taking the power and control from the ailing Krystof. But before he can do that, Rajmund will need to find out who is kidnapping and murdering human woman in the Buffalo area. Police are saying there is a vampire behind it all and it's up to Rajmund to find out who is responsible and stop them before it threatens all vampire kind.

Sara Stratton met the vampire master while in Manhatten visiting her friend and the mate to the West Coast Vampire Lord, Cyn. Now that she is back home in Buffalo Sara hopes to put the dangerously attractive vampire out of her mind but she has a secret that will drag her into the investigation and reveal a past she thought she escaped. To help save the missing women, Sara will need to work with Rajmund and dive head first into the vampire world.

Rajmund is a powerful vampire and is on the verge of challenging his sire and master Krystof. The Northeast territory is in decline because of Krystof and Rajmund doesn't just want but needs to take power of the area. Rajmund is not just another power hungry vampire. He actually cares for his children (vampires he created) and fixing the problems that developed because of Krystof's neglect. Taking power is his main priority and even though he feels desire towards Sara, he tries not to let it get into the way of his ultimate goal. Sara feels the same way about Raj but she is afraid of her secret she ran away from 10 years ago getting out. They both have reasons to why they think they shouldn't be together but there is no denying it when they are face to face. Their attraction comes of the page and the build up to them finally coming together was intense. When they finally gave into each other, it was all worth the wait.

In some series it feels like no matter which book you are reading, you are seeing the same characters over and over again. The first two books in the series feature Vampire Lord Raphael who I love. For me, Raphael comes off as being refined and sophisticated while Rajmund felt more modern and a bit edgy. Both are handsome and arrogant but they both had distinct personalities and I wouldn't mix these two alpha males up. Sara knows how to take care of herself and I love her independence and attitude but I didn't care for the way she easily melted for Raj. I thought Raj needed to fight a little harder and depend less on his 2nd in command Emelie to make things happen. But it didn't turn me off their characters and like I said before, when they finally gave in it was great.

It's not just vampires that are the villain's in this book. Humans are just as capable of being evil. A truly vile man has returned into Sara's life and attempts to blackmail her into helping him. Along with Krystof, Raj must find what vampire connection if any there is between vampires and the missing women. Rajmund will have all your emotions on high alert and D.B. Reynolds has delivered yet another amazing installment in her fantastic Vampires In America series. I really wish more people would read this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delicious Bad boy August 16, 2010
Format:Paperback
D. B. Reynolds writes such delicious bad boys. They are truly bad not sparkly but they are also the kind of guy you want covering your back in a tough situation. Her prose is such that the world of these vampires is vivid, so vivid that you can see the environment and feel the dark. The romance is tortured and long time developing and oh so sexy. There is mystery, action, suspense, sleazy characters to contend with, did I mention romance and sex? Another winner in the Vampires In America series. I can't wait for 2011's SOPHIA and DUNCAN books.

3.0 out of 5 stars A new installment November 16, 2010
Format:Paperback
Review courtesy of All Things Urban Fantasy:
[...]

It's been awhile since last I visited the Vampires in America world, but I had no difficulty picking up where I'd left off. Sex, gore, glamor and violence, D. B. Reynolds' RAJMUND is a fast, fun read that provides a few hours of escape and adventure.

At the heart of all the action is our hero and heroine, Rajmund and Sarah. Raj spends a greater part of the book slamming back vodka shots, tending to his minions, and slinging Sarah around like they're in the sexual Olympics (I'm thinking the naked, couples' ice dancing event). Much is made of the size differential between the hero and heroine, but refreshingly enough, most of the time these references mean their height. Sarah seems pretty enthusiastic about the dynamic (get too close and these two snap together like magnets). Despite the sexual chemistry, Reynolds doesn't skimp on Sarah and Raj working through their own issues and motivations before tumbling (entirely) into bed.

Other than a few instances of "show me, don't tell me" frustration, I enjoyed the writing and pacing of RAJMUND. This book is a bold, larger than life installment in the series, which reads like a vampire TV show (and I mean that in the best possible way). Reynolds' openings are the written equivalent of a "Previously, on Vampires in America" montages and her closings tend to be cliff hangers that ensure you tune in next week. While the suspense isn't enough to guarantee a pre-order from me, I will be keeping my eye out for the next episode.

Sexual Content: A flashback involving rape, several sex scenes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Crude language, but a good story.
The language was crude and took away from the story itself. It sounded more like a frat party, or worse, than a love scene. The language alone would rate it xxx. Read more
