4.0 out of 5 stars Best Yet To Come..., January 5, 2007
This review is from: Rakamonie Ep (Audio CD)
While I am happy to see a release of 'new' Robyn material available in the U.S., this EP can only be a predecessor to a hopefully planned full album (Which will include the Kleerup produced "With Every Heartbeat") or rerelease of 2005's ROBYN. Considered a mixed bag, RAKAMONIE offers selections that prove this Swede's multifaceted talent. With the current flavor in mainstream music, Robyn definately has her place to compete if not surpass the likes of Gwen Stefani and Fergie. Buy it for the outrageousness that is "Konichiwa Bitches" and her take on "Jack U Off." For something more meaty-Pick up the import of ROBYN which features amazing tracks "Who's That Girl" and Crash And Burn Girl."

5.0 out of 5 stars Review of Robyn's Rakamonie - 41/2 stars, August 16, 2007

LilliPad (The South, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Rakamonie Ep (Audio CD)
Every song on the Rakamonie is what quality is all about. It left me wanting more and each song was incredibly different from the song that played before it. Robyn never stopped being too cool for skool, but when she cut her hair again and released this EP, she reminded us of why she's in a league of her own.

Konichiwa Bitches - same version on original Robyn release, but on this EP it has a little voiceover intro. Robyn sounds about 10 years old on this intro, which is so cute.
Cobrastyle - a cover song and Robyn did it better than the original. This song is mad cool! My fave line is, "Certain little boys I just stop deal with. Tell you they your friend and then bad-mouth again".
Be Mine - stripped down all the way and is better than the fast version. It's absolutely beautiful and her passion is obvious.
List of Demands - fun to hear and sing. Robyn's serious side, remniscent of My Truth. The only problem is Jenny Wilson's horrible voice.
Jack U Off - Robyn's unpredictable here with this Prince cover. To hear such an innocent-sounding voice sing those words ... weirdly wonderful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Even if u have the album GET THIS!, July 9, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: the rakamonie EP (Audio CD)
The only songs that are the same here as on the album are 'Konichiwa B*tches' and 'Cobrastyle'. 'Be Mine!' is a wonderfully amazing ballad version and there is an acoustic of 'Whith Every Heartbeat - With Kleerup' which is just as good. and there is also an amazingly good (and funny) cover of Prince's 'Jack U Off'. definately a must have for any Robyn Fan!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great New Robyn!, October 20, 2008
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Rakamonie EP (MP3 Download)
Although Robyn has a new style, this new style is great! My favorite song on this album is "Cobrastyle". It has a great beat, and is very catchy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rakan' Robyn!!, January 22, 2008
This review is from: Rakamonie Ep (Audio CD)
Robyn Carlsson has been a noteworthy pop artist for over a decade, but unfortunately like so many other European pop stars, she has only had limited success in the United States. That may soon change. Robyn is no longer the petite teen who sang the unforgettably catchy 1997 hits '(Do You Know) What it Takes" and "Show Me Love." But she still has the dynamic voice, which wraps flawlessly around her beats, which make even the most original work by Timbaland and Danja seem outdated and irrelevant. The Rakamonie is a sound that is unique, and it belongs to Robyn. The catchy single Konitchiwa B***ches puts the self-absorbed pretention of American hip-hop to shame. Robyn can beat Britney, Fergie, and Gwen all at their own game, and this EP is just a taste of what she has to offer. The song "Cobrastyle" will stick in your head for WEEKS. You will bob your head and hum along, regardless of whatever type of music you like. Robyn Carlsson, now only 28, is on the verge of establishing herself as the world's top female pop talent....and I stress talent. Her 2005 album (which was re-issued in 2007 and includes the hit "With Every Heartbeat) is perhaps the best female vocal pop record of the decade.

5.0 out of 5 stars The future...?, March 11, 2007
This review is from: Rakamonie Ep (Audio CD)
Robyn is an important artist. In 1997, when she first emerged onto the scene with pop that was reminiscent of too much and lacked any serious US staying power, most wrote her off. I bought her album and then forgot that she existed. Perhaps one of the biggest mistakes I have ever made concerning my own musical enlightenment.

She released two albums after Robyn Was Here. My Truth and Don't Stop The Music, and while both were international hits, neither impacted the states and she continued to go unnoticed.

Now if the world had any justice to it, 2005's Robyn would have thrusted her into the spotlight she so rightly deserves, but it received a release only in her native country and was only available as a pricey import (and on iTunes for a short time before they made it disappear). But what we have here is "the future". It isn't often you see a CD single offer a name other than the song being released. The Rakamonie EP is the official UK release of her song "Konichiwa Bitches", along with a smattering of b-sides not likely to be found on an official album, except "Cobrastyle" which will be featured on the UK rerelease of Robyn.
***Random information. April 2nd heralds the new version of Robyn's self-titled album, which, as the previous reviewer mentioned, will contain the song "With Every Heartbeat" that she recorded with (Andreas) Kleerup.

Speaking of B-Sides, this EP features very strong supporting songs. Her remake of the Teddy Bears' "Cobrastyle" is quite inspired, and the ballad version of "Be Mine" is haunting without the beats of the original. "List of Demands" with Jenny Wilson is fast-paced and entertaining, while "Jack U Off", a Prince cover, is alarming in all the right ways. Robyn is a true musical breakthrough, even if you didn't know it four albums in. Prepare yourself, because she will change the face of music.
