About the Author

Always a voracious reader, ANNA CAMPBELL decided when she was a child that she wanted to be a writer. Once she discovered the wonderful world of romance novels, she knew exactly what she wanted to write. Anna has won numerous awards for her Avon historical romances including Romantic Times Reviewers Choice, the Booksellers Best, the Golden Quill, the Heart of Excellence, the Aspen Gold and the Australian Romance Readers Association's most popular historical romance (twice). Her books have twice been nominated for Romance Writers of America's prestigious RITA Award and twice for Australia's Romantic Book of the Year.

When she's not writing passionate, intense stories featuring gorgeous Regency heroes and the women who are their destiny, Anna loves to travel, especially in the United Kingdom, and listen to all kinds of music. She lives near the sea on the east coast of Australia, where she's losing her battle with an overgrown subtropical garden.

A Rake's Midnight Kiss is the second book in the Sons of Sin series, but it can be read as a standalone.

That's it! It's over for me! I am in love with A Rake's Midnight Kiss by Anna Campbell. I didn't think it would be possible to love the second book in the Sons of Sin series more than the first (Seven Nights in a Rogue's Bed), but I do!

I have to applaud Anna Campbell for her talent in creating exciting stories complete with interesting, intelligent characters, steamy love scenes and bits of humor. This is one of those books that made it impossible for any one to reach me, unless they wanted something tossed at their heads and a four letter reply! I do believe I was more um, aggressive towards interruptions this time around and with good reason!

Sir Richard Harmsworth has been tainted by scandal his whole life, branded as a bastard since birth, he tries not to let society know how much his lack of legitimacy bothers him. Believing the Harmsworth Jewel will silence his critics, he tracks the jewel to a cottage and there, disguised as a burglar, attempts to steal the jewel from an unsuspecting woman named Genevieve. When that proves unsuccessful, he disguises his identity and poses as a willing student to her father, the vicar. Richard doesn't count on Genevieve's appealing intelligence, strength and humor getting in the way of his quest for the Harmsworth Jewel and soon, he is struggling to decide what he wants more, the jewel or Genevieve.

Genevieve has learned the hard way that a woman with brains is rarely praised by men so she's built an almost impenetrable armor to defend herself with. She discourages men before they have a chance to hurt her with their careless words.

Soul meets soul on lovers' lips. ~Percy Shelley, Prometheus Unbound

Anna Campbell is known for her passionate romances with tormented characters. Yet Campbell demonstrates her versatile voice with A RAKE'S MIDNIGHT KISS - it is a sweet romance with tormented characters who find passion despite subterfuge. That's the beauty of Campbell's talent - she draws readers into the plot and takes them on a dramatic ride through Regency England. Readers feel the cutting edges of a snobbish ton. It is such a treat, then, to witness the hero and heroine engage in witty banter that initially shelters them from gossip mongers ... and ultimately brings them together as "soul meets soul".

A RAKE'S MIDNIGHT KISS is Book 2 in the Sons of Sins series - somehow I missed reading Book 1, SEVEN NIGHTS IN A ROGUE'S BED (mea culpa). This is a standalone story that references characters from Book 1 and will probably be in Book 3. I enjoyed A RAKE'S MIDNIGHT KISS for its passionate adventure. I look forward to procuring Book 1 and waiting for Book 3.

Recommended read for Regency fans who appreciate a "meatier" story beyond the ballroom.

I received an ARC from Forever for an impartial review.

This is one of the most romantic stories I have read Sir Richard Harmsworth is after a jewel that hopefully will stop some of the talk about his bastardy but it is in the hands of scholar Genevieve Barrett. With the help of his friend Cam he becomes a student to Genevieve's father and there is a strong spark of electricity between the pair. This story will have you turning the pages and up late at night to journey with the most romantic Richard as he falls for Genevieve there is suspense a sensual romance on this wonderful journey. MS Campbell writes magical stories that keep me engrosed throughout the story I never want them to finish. I am looking forward to the next one in this series.Thank you MS Campbell for hours of reading pleasure.

When I saw Ms. Campbell had released a new novel, I quickly read the blurb synopsis, and I was a little underwhelmed. It just didn't grab me and if it had been written by anyone else, I might have passed on it, or put it into my TBR pile for later.

I am so glad that I didn't do that. This book was rich with wonderful characters, intriguing mystery and a fun and heartwarming romance. I couldn't put it down.

Since other reviewers have beat me to the punch and did a good job of describing the novel's contents, I'll just say to not let the blurb fool you. This is one of the best books I've read in a while. It grabbed me from the first and sucked me right in to the very last page.

Bottom line: Of all the new books that came out this week... READ THIS ONE FIRST!

Author Anna Campbell continues her emotionally compelling "Sons of Sin" series with Book Two, "A Rake's Midnight Kiss". Sir Richard Harmsworth learned long ago to present a pleasant facade in order to endure the poisonous barbs from society's sharpest tongues. Called a bastard from his mother's supposed dalliance while his father was away on a diplomatic mission, Richard had nonetheless inherited the title of baronet. It came without respect, however, and Richard had determined that recovering the lost family heirloom, The Harmsworth Jewel, would give him a credulity that society could not deny. After determining the possible hiding place of the jewel, he verifies its location by breaking into the owner's home. Met by a blonde beauty brandishing a gun, Richard makes his escape after a delightful tangle of words with the gorgeous lady. As bright as she is beautiful, Genevieve Barrett is the daughter of a scholarly vicar who takes credit for the articles his daughter writes. A brainy bookworm with little worldly experience, Genevieve is stirred by the confrontation with the masked stranger, and the tantalizing scent of his cologne lingers in her memory. Shortly after their encounter, a new student arrives at the vicarage, expressing his wish of studying her father's work. Mr. Christopher Evans is charming, clever, and intent upon disturbing Genevieve's equilibrium. Something about the man unsettles her, but she must not let herself be distracted from her goal of establishing her own academic reputation. When she realizes that Christopher is the man who broke into the vicarage, she keeps the awareness to herself. She has yet to learn the reason for his criminal intentions, and she is also taken aback by her own very personal reactions to this all-too-attractive pretender.Read more ›
