Marta Deyanova, the new Horowitz,
By A Customer
This review is from: Rachmaninov: 24 Preludes (Audio CD)
Being a pianist myself, I had the great honour to attend masterclass with Marta Deyanova, as I was only 13 years old. During this masterclass, Marta Deyanova performed absolutely outstandingly the complete Rachmaninov preludes in concert. Now, I'm glad to have her and the preludes on CD. I'm strongly convinced that Marta Deyanova is one of the leading pianists of this century. Very remarkable are her wide range of colours, her extreme ability to express a thousands of moods and her strikingly accurate rhytmic feeling and timing. Moreover, she plays not only the Rachmaninov preludes in a very convincing way, but she brings, a Bulgarian herself, a charming and astonishing Slavonian atmosphere through her performance. Rachmaninov would be very pleased, and the great Horowitz would proudly look upon Deyanova as his faithful "pupil".

I agree with the other reviewer that this is very good playing.
But the piano is set somewhat back, and the sound quality is far from ideal. A pity; a bit unusual for the usually excellent Nimbus. |
