Fairly good reading book but not Louis Lamour, I did think it more enjoyable than Zane Gray books I've read and I would recommend it to anyone who likes Westerns.

Hero was a good man but not as rough and tough as cowboys were rumored to be. Enjoyed it and had hopes for the man in the story that he would rise to the occasion. Easy to read for a little trip into the past.

Actually the plot was similar to many but the interesting twist was what made it such a good read. Can't tell you about the twist or I'd spoil it.

Even for western pulp fiction, this is a very bad book. The narration jumps around and does not flow well at all. The storyline is, well, just plain stupid. Not what one expects with Ralph Compton's name on it, no matter who the author is.

A lot of humor even if it wasn't intended. An alright story somewhat different type of western. Ending could have been better unless there is a sequel.

The writing wasn't too bad, although the author should learn the difference between bring and take. It was a very promising plot that suffered from poor execution.
I gave this three stars for the solid Arliss and Emma characters; otherwise it didn't rate anything. And protraying Emma as an irritional, unstable character near the end of unforgivable.
When the good guys can't seem to shoot the bad guys, and miss most shots they finally manage, it's comical or just liberal editing influence.
Only Marcus Galloway rates below Matthew P. Mayo in my opinion. I won't read any more books by Galloway, but I might be forced to try Mayo's upcoming HUNTED
A Ralph Compton fan!

This was a gift,, but, the recipient seemed plased with it. Our son loves the Ralph Compton books. When he was a teen, western novels were they way we could get him to read. So now I have found another author he likes and he still loves to read the westerns. Keep them coming.
