Great for Young Kids Studying Egypt,
By
This review is from: Ralph Masiello's Ancient Egypt Drawing Book (Ralph Masiello's Drawing Books) (Paperback)
This little book is great for young children to learn about Egypt. I teach art and intend to use it with 2nd graders. My state requires that this grade level learn about Ancient Egypt and I believe that this will be a great addition to other materials that I have. I have used his other drawing books with kids for years and they love them!

I bought this book for my six-year-old son to use in conjunction with studying ancient Egyptian history. It's exactly what I was hoping for. The finished drawings are beautifully detailed and realistic, but the instruction is simple and gradual. He could use this book to refine his drawing skills for years to come.

These instructions WORK,

Like Ed Emberley, these drawings take you step by step, with fairly easy lines, into making a very good drawing. We used this for our Ancient Egypt homeschool unit -- specifically, we drew pyramids, scarabs, lotus, and papyrus. There are instructions to do many more drawings, some very complex, but these are the ones we chose to try. Many pages help you draw sphinxes or the gods. The winged disks are really nice, but we didn't try them. Great results.

I Guarantee That Children Will Be Attracted,

This review is from: Ralph Masiello's Ancient Egypt Drawing Book (Ralph Masiello's Drawing Books) (Hardcover)
This is a hard-cover book with heavy-stock pages, designed for children over 7. Front and back covers are so beautifully designed and colored that anyone regardless of age should be attracted to look inside. This is not a cheap coloring book for a small child to scribble in. It would be a shame to give it to a child who is not yet capable of recognizing the book's beauty, or incapable of exercising at least a minimal degree of hand and finger control.<Ancient Egypt Drawing Book> contains Appx. 40 pages that set out a dozen or so drawing projects. Typically each project contains a full color illustration taken from the religion and (hieroglyphic) writing system of Ancient Egypt. The budding, young artist is presented with a series of partial drawings consisting of black lines to which have been added red lines over which the child can trace with colored pencil or fine-point marker. Each partial drawing leads towards a finished line-drawing which can then be colored. As previously stated, a full color example is provided so that the child will have a 'model' to reach towards. Any age-and-finger-control-qualified child should be happy to receive this book and engage in the experience of learning about ancient Egypt while at the same time learning elementary drawing. (The book contains words that identify what is being drawn). This aged reviewer bought this book to give as a gift. But it is so attractive that I could be persuaded to keep it. |
