This addition to Masiello's drawing series is more advanced than his Ocean Drawing Book and is probably better suited to the 8-12 age range. Along with his detailed step-by-step drawing instructions for eleven kinds of dragons, he provides some historical and mythological information about each dragon, including by a nice map showing the geographic locations where stories about them originated. He also supplies a bibliography for further reading.

This ambitious book instructs the reader in drawing dragons using several styles of artwork, including a realistic style (as much realism, anyway, as can be expected from a mythological creatures) as well as Mayan, Thai, and Chinese styles of representation. For budding artists or dragon aficiandos, this is an excellent book for fanning the flame.

My grandson who is six jumped up and down with great glee when he saw his gift. I thought it was probably to advanced for him, but within minutes he proved that theory wrong. However, he is a talented little artist. I ordered the bug book too because it looked simpler. He loves them both.

I recently purchased a number of "how to" drawing books, for myself and a couple to give to my kid nephew. Of the wide assortment of styles and instructions and subject matter, Ralph Masiello's books are a personal favorite. At this point, I have no aspirations (nor talent, I think) for producing fine art. Masiello's step-by-step, line by line illustrations allowed this very impatient student to accomplish an actual image right away. His demonstrations allow the individual to see where to start a drawing and how the image comes together. Once practiced and confident in my improved skills, I was able to apply what I learned to creating the creatures in different poses and create scenes of my own imagination -- not just pen or pencil, but embroidery, mixed media, etc.... anything a crafter can dream up using materials on hand.

My son (8 years old) loves this drawing book. It shows how to draw dragons step by step. We checked out this book from library since he always wanted to learn how to draw dragon. He loved it so much that we finally decided to buy this book for him.

My son is 10 years old and first found this in the library. He loved it and wanted a copy of it for himself.

My 5 year old son grabbed this book at the library because he loves dragons. I thought it was too old for him, but he started drawing and was making fantastic dragons right away. What a difference from his regular drawings! I had no idea that he was all that interested in art until he got this book. He loves following the directions and was very proud of his work.
Now I will be looking for more books like this!

The book I received was in great shape. I will definitely order from this site again in the future.
