Fine live festival from 1975,

This review is from: Ralph Stanley Live at McClure (Audio CD)
The annoyed, previous reviewer has a point. The collection is packaged as a Ralph Stanley CD, 17 years after it was held. Nonetheless, the musical variety is splendid and fans of Dr. Ralph will be happy to hear some (slightly) less well known stars like the very talented (and still active) Larry Sparks and banjo speedster Raymond Fairchild. I'd never heard of the comically named "Outdoor Plumbing Company" and thought they were quite good--I can't find anything about them on the internet. I take one star off for the sometimes poor sound quality. Bill Monroe's Bean Blossom CD is a more satisfying live disc, in large part for its better sound, but if you like that one, this one will also be up your alley. It is strange that the so-called "Father" of BG appears on only two numbers (the second and the final). What an opportunity was wasted of having more Stanley/Monroe duets!
One more thing--Don Reno's banjo playing is disappointing here, but he is a GREAT player, despite what the reviewer writes below. Get ahold of the retrospect "Talk of the Town" of Reno with his original 1950s partner Red Smiley--dazzling stuff!

A gem in my collection,

If you love bluegrass, you'll love this album. Featuring a well-rounded group of musicians, this album captures the spontaneity and essential soul of live bluegrass. This is an album to share. When I was in college, somebody stole just this album from me--I hope they enjoyed it. I bought another. I played that copy for a friend who had never heard bluegrass music before. Before the album was finished, I had to give it to him...he later went on to be a banjo player. So now I'm on my third copy on vinyl: scratchy, worn, but always a favorite.

I was born and raised near McClure, Virginia. Ralph and Carter Stanley was and is very popular for their down home music.Their hymns were so beautiful. This CD is fantastic! Anyone who listens to Bluegrass should get one.
