Editorial Reviews

Review

""Rolling Stone illustrator Ralph Steadman delivers a weirrd, wonderful coffee-table book full of deliciously grotesque political caricatures."" —Rolling Stone

""Ralph is ... so nice. And yet, at the same time, he is ... a psychopath."" —Johnny Depp

""The most gifted and effective existential artist of my time."" —Kurt Vonnegut

"The ultimate coffee- table book for artists, music and political junkies – heck, creative all around. Iconoclastic British artist, Rolling Stone illustrator Ralph Steadman has been creating editorial and political illustrations for more than five decades. He's revered for his ink-splattered, anarchic, and often shocking drawings." ―StyleNoChaser.com

I'm notoriously difficult to shop for, which is why this year my favorite Christmas gift was the one I bought myself (don't tell my mom)! I was torn between buying the standard edition and this limited edition but ultimately knew I wouldn't be happy without the limited! The book is signed, it comes in a nice, designed box, and the best part—it includes a Ralph Steadman print that I can hang up in my living room! I probably would have liked almost any Steadman print, but I think the one it comes with is perfect with my other decor.

The book is so wonderfully large that I'm still making my way through it, so my review might be a little bit early, but so far I'm loving taking my time going through each page, admiring Ralph's work and enjoying his quirky writing!

For once, the XL size of a book is justified by its contents. I started putting bookmarks in at pages I wanted to return to, but soon realized I wanted to return to all of them. Weird (or weirrd) they may be, but the graphics are also stunningly beautiful. Breathtaking, even. If David Hughes is Saul Steinberg on steroids, then Ralph Steadman is Hughes on steroids. I can't think of a more inspiring art book that I own, and I own lots. I'll be studying these works for inspiration and pure enjoyment many times for years (I hope) to come.
