With all due respect to the above review, this book was not written as a "fast read", or meant to be "devoured in a single sitting." It is a meticulously translated tale of ancient India, with all of the greatest elements of a great story thrown in - treachery, redemption, adventure, murder, passionate love, family dynasties, greed, etc. If you can read above a sixth-grade level, this book will richly reward every moment you spend with it. Thrones are toppled and regained, love is experienced in all of its richness and despair, and the adventures the hero has to live through are guaranteed to keep you on the edge of your seat. All kinds of demons and monsters are fought and conquered. Yes, the translation is old-fashioned, but so beautiful that only the most determinedly modern reader will balk at reading it. It is well worth the time and thought that it will require. |
