Amazon.com Review

Few ancient myths are as vibrant today as the Ramayana, which is still portrayed in dances, plays, songs, and movies across India and Southeast Asia. Rama, an incarnation of the god Vishnu, is a young prince of legendary prowess who wins his bride by drawing a bow that no mortal had ever drawn. When his kingdom is denied him by a careless promise and his bride abducted by a king of demons, Rama embarks on a journey that reveals not only his superhuman power but his constant virtue and profound love. Like all great myths, subtleties beyond the tragic and heroic invite the reader to draw parallels to the struggles of daily life--steadfastness in love and work, the value of honesty, the inexorableness of fate. This version of the Ramayana is a brief but abundant retelling of the epic poem and includes gorgeous traditional illustrations of the story in addition to boxed features that introduce various aspects of Hindu worship and customs. As Hindus have known for centuries, the Ramayana rewards reading on several levels. --Brian Bruya

I felt like going back to my childhood, trapped by this amazing, wonderful epic tale. So simple, at the same time, so deep. I highly recommend it, give it to your children too. Once they start, they will not stop until finish. Full of excitement for children and moral values so needed nowadays.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love is as love does, November 20, 2001
This review is from: Ramayana: A Journey (Paperback)
Normally I would not buy anything that is abridged. However I have several copies and translations of this epic. I would not buy a secondary paraphrase of the epic, as it is too important to the telling of the message(s) across. This picture book is worth the looking. The back cover describes "Ramayana as 'Rama's Travels'.

This work is divided in the established six books and tells the tail in a smooth manner so that you would knot know what is missing. There are charts and tables to help you know who the players are and lots of colorful pictures. There is very little distraction of someone trying to tell you want you are reading. Ranchor Prime distributes many books of similar quality.
