5.0 out of 5 stars Rambo III's score the highpoint of the action trilogy.
No confessed Goldsmith fan/collector can be without this final score in the Rambo series, for Goldsmith brings his themes from the two previous action hits together for a score with a surprising emotional wallop. The soft, melancholic opening of 'Another Time' shows that Goldsmith was well aware of the film's intimate narrative pin, that of having Rambo (Stallone) once...

3.0 out of 5 stars Somewhat disappointing
After the action genius that was First Blood Part II this is kind of a dull entry. Goldsmith seems to be more interested in giving us sort of non-incidental music. The score on this CD is the complete score that went largely unused in the movie. In fact in the film they even re-used cues from Part II. I'm guessing that this is because what Goldsmith had wrote for III was...

No confessed Goldsmith fan/collector can be without this final score in the Rambo series, for Goldsmith brings his themes from the two previous action hits together for a score with a surprising emotional wallop. The soft, melancholic opening of 'Another Time' shows that Goldsmith was well aware of the film's intimate narrative pin, that of having Rambo (Stallone) once again going to war, only this time he must save his former Commanding Officer and, more importantly, surrogate father (played by series regular Richard Crenna) from a POW camp. The second track, 'Preparations', also shows the score won't skimp on the sizzling energy that vibrated through Goldmsith's score for the second Rambo film. The album is a meticulously crafted slow burn, the intimate and forlorn strains of 'It's A Long Road' from First Blood weave through the early tracks, reinforcing the strong bond the two characters share, but the rumblings of the bombast from First Blood Part 2 can clearly be heard in the distance, growing louder as the confrontations with the bad guys and rescue of Crenna's character grow nearer. The score for Rambo III, offered complete here for the first time, is another textured feather in Goldsmith's scoring cap, and an impressive conclusion to a series of scores every bit as wonderful as his Oscar winning work for The Omen and its sequels. I can only give this my highest recommendation.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW! What A Difference!, September 15, 2001
This review is from: Rambo III: The Complete Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
This CD album presents Jerry Goldsmith's complete score for "Rambo III". And I thank God for that because the original CD release has only fractions of Goldsmith's score, along with some songs that I have no idea where they came from. All right, maybe Bill Medley's version of "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" is heard at the end credits of the film, but the fact that these songs were there made me upset.

Thank goodness Intrada released this gem containing one of Goldsmith's most interesting works in a very complete form. 'Preparations' presents very experimental music where he uses drums and some Asian feeling, and it's more complete than in the original release. There are lots of action tracks that are worth hearing like 'The Game', 'Flaming Village', 'Night Fight', 'The Show Down', and 'Final Battle'. This score may not be as bombastic and robust as "Rambo: First Blood Part II", but the music here sounds kinda intimate, and you can tell that by listening to touching tracks like 'Another Time' and 'Then I'll Die'. The only thing missing from this album is Medley's version of 'He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother'; instead we hear a beautiful conclusion called 'I'll Stay' combining Goldsmith's major themes for "Rambo III".

Too bad there's limited availability for anyone to enjoy this album. If you can buy it used, don't hesitate. This is one hell of a CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Give Me Rambo Every Day !, March 15, 2010

I absolutely loved this Rambo after the very first one that sets him into motion and gives him LIFE ! This music, you can feel every part of the movie as it plays, and when the highs and the suspense is just about making your hair stand on end, and you can't take it, there will be some lovely piece that plays and is a piece from that country and is majestic and it is just amazing music, it plays to the soul of Rambo and it plays to your soul, even if you have never seen a Rambo movie you would understand what was happening just through the voice the music gives you, it is that magical. It is strong, powerful with moments of Rambo's human emotions of fear and love and deep humanity for people who are the underdog like has always been, and in his goodness he never realizes that he so selflessly doesn't just fight for Colonel Troutman or himself, but all worthy men, women and children that deserve his training, he has always come full circle, he as never admitted it in heart. His heart is way bigger than himself, he just can't see it.This music gives life to these emotions in him. I never get tired of playing it in my home while I am doing something else. It moves me inside myself, and never becomes tiresome.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another expansive sequel score by Jerry Goldsmith, July 21, 2011
This review is from: Rambo III -Complete- (Audio CD)
gets the full treatment by Intrada Records correcting an enormous tragedy committed By Scotti Bros. initial release
of the so-called soundtrack album that came out with the film in 1988. This album features Goldsmith's dynamic music in complete form.
I have spotted a certain parallel in his scores for both his OMEN trilogy and this series. The first features both featured dark scores that introduces the primary themes as well as some fine musical constructs within the scores.
Both "The Omen" and "First Blood" also stand out as classics. The middle installment in both trilogies features some of the composer's most energetic writing and the third entries are more epic in tone and have much larger scale
ensembles. While "The Final Conflict" is, in my opinion, the best of the Omen scores, I can't quite say the same for the third Rambo score. Its great, don't get me wrong, and some of the cues here are among his more beautiful as well as reflective, but I feel that the stealthy music-----compared to "Mountain Hunt" in the first score and "Revenge" in the second score-----is not quite as gripping as those and some of the remaining cues don't quite match the power of the two earlier scores (but certainly miles above anything Brian Tyler came up with for the fourth film). the first half of the score is much better but its still an advantage to have this score in its complete form.
This is very much a genuine Goldsmith gem worth having given his gift for scoring films of this type.

5.0 out of 5 stars Soundtrack Masterpiece by Jerry Goldsmith, July 6, 2007

The full soundtrack of Rambo 3, composed and conducted by Jerry Goldsmith. Some may think of some songs looking alike, but to the acurate listener and fan, it is, without error, a great deal. Excellent music!
Inside the CD enchart, there is an small text about the recording, musical features and techniques for songs or all the CD, that might prove useful for those that have musical education and apreciate it.
Most of the score in this CD was not used in the film. Actually, several sequences had tracked music from First Blood Part II, but nevertheless, it is still worth it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Vastly entertaining, May 15, 2007
This review is from: Rambo III: The Complete Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
The late Jerry Goldsmith was a remarkable composer, and the score to Rambo III was one of his finest. It's easy to overlook these films as being silly Stallone action films (which indeed they are) but accompanying each of these films was a fantastic and captivating Goldsmith score. This one is a very enjoyable listen.

If you're a Rambo fan and like Rambo movies then this CD is worth buying. I enjoy listening to the instrumental songs from the movie which I also like. It's enjoyable listening to a digital audio CD that plays songs(in stereo sound) from movie scenes that I like. There's even some songs on this CD that's not in the movie. Jerry Goldsmith did a fantastic job on this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have classic Goldsmith action opus, February 21, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Rambo III: The Complete Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
Rambo.. a gulty 80's pleasure. Everythying over the top. Once again, Maestro Goldsmith comes out and finds a soul even to this! Thanks to Intrada for releasing this awesomeness in its entirety. All the Rambo scores are incredible. Goldsmith has defined action scoring for several decades, and many people might make the mistake of forgetting about these because the movies were... less than excellent, but to miss Goldsmith's Rambo music is a crime. In this 70 + minutes, Goldsmith develops at least a half a dozen different themes, and several different ethnic approaches. Pulse pounding, gut crunching in some tracks, and then Goldsmith is able to write beautiful instrospective music for Rambo's contemplations. Whether or not you have ever seen any of the Rambo movies, when you listen to Goldsmith's 3 Rambo scores, particularly this one, you have got to salute him once again for being able to so wholly find a soul to a piece of work and define a world by it. This is a clinic on how action movies can and should be scored. Get the other Rambo scores, too. They're great, and this is the best of all.
