Rambo + Action = Good times had by all!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Rambo Trilogy (Special Edition DVD Collection) - (First Blood/Rambo: First Blood Part II/Rambo III) (DVD)
I'm going right for the meat and potatoes on this one.Ok, you've got the Rambo movies all in one case, and I'm not saying they stuck three movies in one box, they have all the movies cased in a book format. Then, for you pickers and choosers, they have all the Rambos in widescreen and full screen editions (I prefer widescreen though). But don't be fooled at the beginning of the full screen version, it just starts out in widescreen until the credits are finished and then it becomes full screen. And, the box set contains a fourth disk that you CANNOT get anywhere but in this set. It contains more facts and featurettes about Rambo and what made it so great (and it has a play all feature for the people that don't want to go back and fourth through all of the featurettes). It also contains a neat little trvia game and sneak peeks at other DVDs. In closing, people that love Rambo need this, and for the people that just love things blowing up...you need this as well. This is the essential Rambo collection, and it can also be called inexpensive action, because you have all of the Rambos and a special fourth DVD just for this set all packaged in a book format and a very sleek tin. Get this set you action freeks and Rambo-maniacs before Rambo hunts you down and makes you buy it!

Well, when the Rambo movies were re-released on VHS a few years ago in all new packaging and in widescreen for the first time, I jumped on that set when I found it. But now that I got a DVD player I have been wanting to get these movies on DVD. Now there's been a Collector's set available for some time using the same prints that were released on VHS. They were also, I noticed, only in Dolby 2.0 and from what I have read the picture quality wasn't very good. I was even going to buy that set because it had a great price, but ironically I waited. I then went back to check out the Amazon link and found that it was no longer available directly from Amazon and I was like, "What?" Well now I know. This new Special Edition is going to rock! Hopefully. :)Remastered in both Dolby 5.1 and DTS, the Rambo movies should sound the best ever. With an additional disc to the 3 movie set that is loaded with mucho extras that it will keep you busy for quite a while featuring many new documentaries that tie in the events of the movies with today's post-9/11 world with a documentary on Afghanistan. This should be the Ultimate Rambo DVD collection. And with rumors that Stallone is working on a new script for a Rambo IV that takes him back to Afghanistan to fight the Taliban, it should be interesting and nostalgic to watch these movies again. And if the Rambo movies come across as patriotic propaganda now, so what? Get over it. Why one would feel shame for having strong feelings for one's country is beyond me. Besides, I'm anxiously awaiting to hear that Rambo theme in 5.1 Surround.

Let me confess that in the whole period of DVD production, I've never seen such a brilliant, Spectacular & really Collector's edition (not only special edition) DVD set! It's beautiful and very well designed and produced with high quality material!
It consists of a Collectable real metal outer case, Spectacular metallic and glassy inner case, booklet, and 4 DVDs. but there are two complain, movies are double sided. Widescreen sides are Dual layer with DTS soundtrack. Full screen sides are single layers without DTS soundtrack. it means that if you deceide to watch a movie in full screen, you'll unable to use DTS which is soppose to be one of the most important features of this DVD set. second complain is about the sound remasteration. in two of them, all of the sounds and speeches go through only one of five speakers! it's a real problem and it really botters when it shows 5.1 DD or DTS in audio menu but the real soundtrack is mono. it'll be good if the studio schedule a program to replace the defective DVDs! I heart of a new release of RAMBO TRILOGY, I've not seen it yet but descriptions indicate that's an ordinary DVD collection. the sound quality will be difinately better than this one but about other features, I can't Discuss yet. better of this one or not, I can say it with courage, no DVD collection will be complete whitout the RAMBO TRILOGY SPECIAL EDITION!

Quality action films!,

The first of these three is a classic. Stallone as the vagrant Vietnam veteran falsely arrested and escaping to rage a one man war on the officers who are after him. With a great atmosphere and a small death count, you see that action films don't necessarily have to have lots of people being killed to succeed.First Blood part 2 is not as good but is still enjoyable and takes the format of a normal action film with Rambo rescuing P.O.W's from Nam. Rambo 3 is again similar to 2 with Rambo mounting a rescue mission to save his friend Colonel Trautman. Overall, many hours of entertainment that you will enjoy, and despite a slightly dodgy third installment, still worth the money.

All time classic film, one man's fight for justice,
By A Customer
This review is from: Rambo Trilogy (3pc) [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Arguably the 3 best movies of all time. The 1st one is the best though, all set in a forest. Rambo picked on by the law. Greatest lines all time all the way through especially by Trautman: "Get the body bags ready" "Rambo's been trained to eat things that'd make a billygoat puke" The faced on the deputies in the forest as they're taken out one by one is terrific. Stallone plays the part very well, having that Bronson style stare. The 2nd one is more gory and has more action. Yet again, Trautman always dressed perfectly, not a bead of sweat steals the show. Great scene when Rambo threatens Murdock! The 3rd finishes off a great series of 1980s movies. Its a trilogy i'll want my kids to see.

What makes me laugh about this is simple, and I've done the same thing before I even saw the movies! If you happen to be sitting around, talking about how you want to see the "Rambo" movies, you might find out in a hurry that the first one isn't simply called, "Rambo." It was and still is a bestseller by David Morrell called, "First Blood." I got the box set a few years ago for Christmas without even seeing one of the movies. Now you can probably be certain that this will be more realistic then your typical "G.I. Joe" episode. So, with another flick coming out sooner or later, supposedly called, "John Rambo," enjoy the box set first. There are three movies in the set, and I'll list them in order.
First Blood: Ok, this is your "Rambo Part I," if you will. This is the introduction to John Rambo, and you don't want to screw with him. I had no clue if this would start right in the middle of 'Nam, or Rambo in Basic Training. But you find Rambo on the streets, and all he wants is to find a place to eat. But the wrong person pisses him off, just ask the Sheriff! He has no idea who he messed with. This is where you get to know Rambo and his Colonel. The classic line is this film has to be, "They drew first blood. Not me!" The special features on this are excellent. You even see some David Morrell talk about how he came about to write "First Blood." Pretty neat! Rambo: First Blood: Part II: Rambo is called back into action by Col. Trautman! He is on the look out for POWs. He is still the perfect killing machine. He still wants to win. It isn't over for Rambo! Everything is personal. Once again, the special features are great. It comes with the documentary, "We Get to Win This Time." It makes it worth the money. Rambo III: I'm going to be blunt. If Afghanistan is a sore spot for you, don't watch it. The fact of the matter is, who knew? It's over 20 years later! Get over it already! This is #3 in the box set, and I still enjoyed it. This time Rambo is on a search for Trautman. It gets very interesting. The special features are very interesting. So when you run into Rambo, you'll certainly run into action packed! You don't buy Rambo expecting "Mrs. Doubtfire." You expect some great stuff. And some great entertainment! Which is what this is. Love it or hate it, Rambo is going to be around for quite some time. It will always be considered a classic by many. If you want lots of Rambo, then this is for you!

War Action + Sylvester Stallone = The Perfect Movie,
By
This review is from: Rambo Trilogy (Special Edition DVD Collection) - (First Blood/Rambo: First Blood Part II/Rambo III) (DVD)
No one could have played the part of Rambo better than Sylvester Stallone. He fits the profile of an invincible soldier perfectly: his war-trained, war-stricken , ripped-out body; his serious, aggressive, and somber disposition; and his reputation of being a hardcore action-packer. If Stallone alone isn't enough to draw you to the movie, the action contained within is. From crashing helicopters, to explosive arrows fired from his compound bow, to highly explosive napalm bombs, this movie will keep you on the edge of your seat. A single viewing will not be enough once you have seen the series once. Inevitably you will want to see it again, so I recommend purchasing it.

Wow, it's been a while, but rewatching these classic '80s action movies on DVD has been a real trip! "First Blood" was a gripping novel that inspired an excellent movie, and to date it remains my favorite of the three because it has the most unconventional take on the "action hero"... who's just another poor, damaged, and misunderstood soul left over from the wake of Vietnam; his actions may be questionable, but we sympathize with his plight because the writing coupled with Stallone's perfect performance allow us to believe that he truly has been wronged. "Rambo: First Blood Part II" is the quintessential action movie of the '80s; its character arcs aren't as compelling as in "First Blood," but it's an entertaining movie through-and-through and manages to retain some depth by exploring the issue of forgotten MIA vets still in Vietnam. "Rambo III" has a very clever take on the real-life US intervention in Afghanistan against the Soviets during the Regan era, but has the least depth of the three movies because ultimately it's more about Rambo rescuing his friend and mentor (a well-portrayed-as-always-by-Richard Crenna), Sam Trautman, as an excuse to create 2 hours' worth of nonetheless exhilarating action scenes. All of this is wholeheartedly complimented by Jerry Goldsmith's wonderful score; his Rambo theme transitions wonderfully from hard-driving action to passionate ballad and resonates in your mind after each film is over! Stallone is a smart screenwriter and actor, and he knows what makes these movies work, which I think is well-evidenced by their enduring popularity now in 2002. This excellent DVD package has it all, and is definitely the perfect experience for anyone wishing to relive the fun and excitement that made the action movies of the '80s so great! Particularly these action movies, which have a true and recognizable main character (not just an actor blowing things up), which I think truly sets them apart from the pack. Watch and enjoy!!

This review is from: Rambo Trilogy (Special Edition DVD Collection) - (First Blood/Rambo: First Blood Part II/Rambo III) (DVD)
Ok, so the Rambo trilogy isnt a big brain bustin' adventure. They were not meant to be. Who cares. This box set is the first DVD collection i've purchased. The box was neat. Metal, with an embossed Stallone being his usual killing machine. The inside was handsome, but i was shocked. Two sided DVD's, what a nuance. Not one, but two sides to avoid getting finger prints and scratches on. I only watch the widescreen versions, so i guess its not a big deal for me, but still, this shouldnt be this way. Dual layer, please. All the bonus features were pretty cool, I guess, and it possessed a surprising moving documentary on Vietnam, although I believe that this was included to be somewhat politically correct. Don't let the box fool you, half the bonus features on the 4th disc are just like extended trailers of the three movies. However, these are my only complaints, rambo looks great on wide screen. This is 80s action at its finest.

an awesone series.,
This review is from: Rambo Trilogy (Special Edition DVD Collection) - (First Blood/Rambo: First Blood Part II/Rambo III) (DVD)
this set is something you wont want to miss, 3 great movies for a great price. the first movie, first blood is about a vietnam vet called rambo who goes to a small town, taking to prison by a cop, and escapes, and the police is trying to catch him. first blood is the most serious and smart movie in the series. it has great writing and some pretty good action, but ultimately, it is more of a drama, i think. i give first blood 4 stars. the next movie, rambo: first blood part 2, is actually my favorite out of the whole series.it sees Rambo released from prison by Federal order to document the possible existence of POWs in Vietnam, under the belief that he will find nothing, thus enabling the government to sweep the issue under the rug. the movie has the most action out of the whole series, i think. there are great moments of drama and romance and the climax with rambo in the helicopter had me shaking with excitement. it also has the most memorable landscapes. it give the movie 4 1/4 stars. i can't believe this movie won the golden raspberry for worst picture and other 3 awards! although i do admit it has the dumbest scene in the whole series. the next one, rambo 3, was pretty good, it did not live to 1 and 2 but it still is a fun little action movie. it is about rambo setting out to rescue coronel trautman from soviets in afghanistan. there are some pretty neat action sequences, the landscape is pretty cool, but it is the dumbest movie of the series, by far, with a ridiculous climax, some unbelievable action sequences, and an absolutely atrocious dialogue. however, it's rambo, not citizen kane. i give this movie 3 3/4 stars. the movies get a 4 star rating from me and the special features get 5 stars from me. so, im gonna give this item 5 stars. rambo 1-3 are almost classic, and definitely better than rambo 4.
