Product Description

John Rambo is a Special Forces solder that is currently spending time in military prison, well until Colonel Trautman decides that Rambo is the ideal solder to be sent on a special mission. Rambo's mission is simple, go to Vietnam and photograph the POW camp there. He is also ordered not to engage the enemy or rescue any POW's. In Vietnam, Rambo meets his contact, Co, and she sets up the passage to the POW camp. During the mission Rambo cannot bear just photographing the POW camp when he has an ample opportunity to rescue a POW in the camp. So Rambo, disobeying his orders, tries to rescue a POW, which is when it all starts to go wrong. Rambo is a side scrolling platform game where the player controls Rambo with his mission to Vietnam. The game starts at the military base before getting sent to Vietnam. In Vietnam, Rambo has to fight animals in the jungles, swamps, and caves like wasps, snakes, fish, tigers, bats, spiders, birds, apes and flamingos. Before making his way to the POW camp he has to fight guards and mercenaries that can kick and shoot him, all wearing different color shirts depending on how powerful they are. The game also requires the player to navigate a complex map requiring the player to find North and South points on the ground to go up and down levels as well as East and West by moving Rambo to the edge of the screen. There are 6 different weapons that Rambo can pick up that are knife, throwing knife, bow and arrow, bow and exploring arrow, gun, and hand grenade. All the weapons but the knife has limited ammo which is collected from killed enemies. There is also health vile that restores health as well as mission specific items that Rambo must find to complete some missions. The game uses password save that can be retrieved when talking to any person.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't deny the old classics, December 24, 2001
This review is from: Rambo (Video Game)
Despite being one of the early movie to game translations (others on the systems include Rocky, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm street, Halloween, and Texas Chainsaw Massacre) this is the best of the set. All the others suffered from variosue flaws to include insane difficulty, unresponsive controls, or bad graphics. This has none of those real problems. The controls move smoothly for the system, and the story follows the 2nd movie precisly. However like many great NES classics this game also has outstanding music. They didn't need to hire Big name groups or spend thousands upon thousands of dollars to hire an orchestra, no they just used their trusty keyboard and their creativity.
True to the NES there is the challenge. The enemies are fairly difficult to beat and at times there are insane jumps to make. But it's these things that made the NES so great. Today's games rely to much on eye candy to buy games. The NES couldn't do that and so we have the challenge. Another series that just got to easy was Mega Man. Has any one out there truely gone through the first game the first time playing it. I doubt it because it is insanly difficult. Or beat Act 6 in Ninja Gaiden with 1 life, like I said doubtful (unless you were a game Genie cheater). In the end I would stick with this classic in the NES archives because it is very well overlooked but is truely a great in the industry. MAny people agree with me when I say that the NES and even the SNES were the greatest systems of all time. THey had the best line up olf games because the industry was still very young. They saw the mistake with ET and Ataris decline so they did what needed to be done to survive. This is another one of those greats, buy it today.

5.0 out of 5 stars The "Rambo" Nintendo game is fun to play., December 7, 2006

This review is from: Rambo (Video Game)
If you like the movie "Rambo: First Blood Part II", which the video game is based on, then you'll also enjoy playing the NES video game. There's a few characters in the video game that are not in the movie and were created just to give the player a challenge. The cool thing is that at the end of the game, you can shoot any weapon at Murdock and he'll turn into a frog. There's a few grammer errors on the text that's shown but that's okay; the game is fun.
