I am pleased with the fact that they are open range - meaning you move to a location to shift, not a preset area.

After installing these on the bicycle, I have nothing to say but "Well done" these work far better than what was on the bicycle originally!!!

If you plan on putting these on a cruiser or using them for a cheap replacement on a kid's bike, you will probably be fine.

I coordinate a small bicycle recycling program, and nearly every department store bike comes in with broken grip shifters. We ordered these as a cheap, simple alternative shifter to be able to get the bikes back into the community. Hasn't been a full season yet to see how they hold up, but I'm impressed with them so far. Beefy metal construction, well packaged, and they were shipped with cables, cable housing, housing ferrules, and alloy cable tips. Excellent choice at a sub-$10 price point.

I was looking for a replacement for my sons Falcon "Grip Shift" style shifters on his mountain bike. The entire bike was about $100.00 so I was not looking for a high dollar replacement. The price and review seemed right, so I bought a set of shifters. It took about a week to receive them, and when they arrived, I was very pleased. The set came with shifters, cables, cable protectors and caps for the cable ends so that after the cables were cut to length, they won't fray. After installing these on the bicycle, I have nothing to say but "Well done" these work far better than what was on the bicycle originally!!! I wouldn't hesitate one instant to order these again.

Bought these for a $10 bicycle frame I was putting together. I needed something functional and cheap enough that crackheads wouldn't steal it when I was in the store. These fit the bill perfectly, low cost and function for pretty much any bike. Will buy again when I need more shifters

This friction, non-indexed thumb shifter is exactly what I needed for my older but still functioning 18 speed bike (Murray Biotech, love it). My old shifter just broke off one day. This one is working fine and is a value and easily installed product, but I do have one or two complaints. It is not possible to tighten it's bracket up enough to keep it from sliding around on the handlebar. The cheap screw striped and needs to be harder steel. It's the same old story these days. I'll go to the hardware store and see if they make a good hard screw anymore (that's what she said). The shipping was close to as much as the cost of the shifter. OK one more complaint. Why not include a couple of pinch ends (the little pinchable do-dads you put at the end of your cable so it doesn't fray)? I mean to order them (or find them locally in a bike shop somewhere, and you only need 2 but you have to buy 50) and then pay shipping is a hassle and a bummer. Luckily I reused the old ones. Other than that is was real cheap and with a little effort will work just fine, I'm riding again anyway.
Don't misread my 3 stars. That is like a C+ and is not a bad score. This item isn't pure crap nor is it a jewel of a find. I rate realistically and will not heap 5 stars (A+) on a product unless it's hands down exceptional in every way. Very few products are at least that I can afford. A Lamborghini Aventador is 5 stars.

I got these to replace a broken Suntour shifter on my early 90's Giant Iguana, which I use as a winter bike due to its solid construction, diverse gearing and low street value.

I installed these on friday and was pretty impressed with their performance, especially given the low price and overall ease of install (this was my first time running bike cables, or swapping shifters and I had the whole thing done in about an hour).

Only 2 days after installing these, the plastic of the left shifter split causing the shifter to lose cable tension on my front derailleur. I glued the plastic housing back together as a temp fix, but its just really not a great design to depend on a small piece of plastic to maintain tension.

This probably would not have been an issue if I was not biking home in below freezing weather causing the plastic to get brittle, but thats what I need. If you plan on putting these on a cruiser or using them for a cheap replacement on a kid's bike, you will probably be fine. But, if you plan on hitting the streets in the snow, you may want to think again.

Worked fine for a couple days, but the plastic shell disintegrated in the
cold, rendering them non-functional. I would likely not buy another set for
riding in the winter (0-10 F. temps). Until that happened they worked fine.

These are good budget shifters for low cost bicycle repairs. They are good for replacing junky shifters from cheap bikes or just a low budget solution on older good quality bikes. Since it is friction shift there are no worries about indexing issues with cheap drive trains or old worn out drive trains.

This set of rear wheel and chainwheel friction thumbshifters are a good inexpensive solution for replacing broken indexing shifters that are quite expensive. The shifter cables and housings are included in the set and are long enough to be cut to fit any bike. Both shifters mount easily on a handlebar without removing the handlebar grips. The lever on the rear wheel shifter may not have enough range to shift across the largest freewheel clusters but the stop can be cut away with a hacksaw and file to give it the needed extra range.
