4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent production from a top notch producer
J. Moss has quickly become one of my favorite producers in the gospel industry. I would say he's right up there with T.Bizzy (Tonex's alter ego), Tommy Sims (CeCe Winans, Israel & New Breed) and Warryn Campbell (Mary Mary albums), because though Ramiyah lacks an outstanding vocalist per se, the average music listener would never notice because of the outstanding...

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent production from a top notch producer, September 16, 2004

J. Moss has quickly become one of my favorite producers in the gospel industry. I would say he's right up there with T.Bizzy (Tonex's alter ego), Tommy Sims (CeCe Winans, Israel & New Breed) and Warryn Campbell (Mary Mary albums), because though Ramiyah lacks an outstanding vocalist per se, the average music listener would never notice because of the outstanding production and arrangement credited to Moss.

This album could definitely go up against any R&B/R&P album put out by any girl group and hold its own. The SWV's, the Destiny's Child's, the En Vogue's, the Brownstone's, the TLC's, it doesn't matter. The beats alone make this album a great listen. On songs such as "Reason", "Things We Want", "Turn It Out/Turn It Out Remix", and my favorite "Don't Nobody Know" (which features the two of the Clark Sisters plus Kierra Sheard), J. Moss and the PAJAM crew really bring it with those beats. Catchy hooks and funky beats for sure. Buy the album for those tracks alone!

However, this album is far from a classic. Maybe the reason behind that is the fact that this group has no stand out vocalist. Destiny's Child has Beyonce, and SWV had Coko. All the girls can hold a note but no one in this group can really SANG, so to speak. This is very evident on the song "Don't Look Any Further", one of the skippable tracks on this album. The songwriting in this song is kind of too normal for my tastes, and the leads are very weak if you ask me. The best slow song on this album would have to be "Waiting", due to excellent vocal arrangement, especially when it gets into the bridge. Awesome! I wish PAJAM had put this kind of effort in the other slow tracks.

Another notable slow track is "I Told You", for pretty much the same reasons as "Waiting". The songs I didn't mention are decent but skippable. A very strong effort though.

Am I the only one that is going to be fair and unbiased in this review? I think so. I have read some of the reviews for Ramiyah's debut and I must say some people may have hit their heads before reveiwing it.

It's funny that this album was released twice with two different covers but with the same songs about six months apart. I bought this album back in June 2003, after seeing them on Bobby Jones' Gospel and Showtime At the Apollo. After seeing them perform, I just knew that their album was going to be the bomb! Unfortunately, it's not as good as I would have liked it to be.

I'm not saying that this album is bad, but it's not quite the classic that everyone is saying that it is or actually could be. I think that this album was a bit rushed, for some of the lyrics falter where the girls' voices shine.

There are some pretty good uptempo songs that I keep spinning in my CD player. "Just Stop" is a good uptempo number that has a catchy hook with some marvelous leads and harmonies. "Don't Nobody Know", featuring Karen Clark-Sheard, Dorinda Clark-Cole, and Kierra Sheard, feature strong leads. You knew that with a couple of Clark Sisters, Ramiyah was going to bring the funk, and do they ever! This song is a classic uptempo number by itself. The first single "Turn It Out" is actually really good, quite catchy, and has a nice message. Ramiyah is letting you know that it's okay to praise how you want to praise, and you can't tell them how to do it!

The slower songs fare well, and let's the girls do some real singing. "Waiting" has to be the best song lyrically, and the girls have no fear showing that they are not just some studio act. "I Told You", the second single, is by far my favortie song on the album. Tracy's raspy yet strong lead vocals shine well on here, as do the background harmonies. "Don't Look Any Further" is a classic within itself with some serious leads again from DeLaurian and Tracy, and the background harmonies never fall off. "The Girls Solo" (odd name for an interlude) sounded good, but would have been better with some good harmony. I initially thought that "Covered" was just average, but after a couple more listens I actually like it and find myself singing it often. The lyrics are pretty good and the girls sound really good on it.

Speaking of interludes, we get a funny one from my girl Michelle of Destiny's Child. She calls the girls "Ramiyahs" without them knowing it. She then says "yall know I put an S at the end of yall name"....classic.

I agree with one of the reviewers that said that some of the songs run together and sound the same. Don't get me started with "Here We Go (Holla)", which is similar to the "Holla" that Trin-i-tee 5:7 recorded on their album "The Kiss" (another album that was a bit below my expectations). Also, some of the songs just sound too much alike....take out the words and you practically hear similar instrumentals on "Just Stop", "Power From God", and "Things We Want". "The Reason" sounds extremely rushed, for I don't really hear the girls' harmonies. It sounds as if the harmonies on that song are made from a synthesizer. Yuck....

Ramiyah actually has some talent, that is nowhere near disputed. I think with more songs that show off their amazing range and vocal versatility, Ramiyah would have been propelled higher in popularity. Hopefully in the future, we can get some real material for Ramiyah!!

This cd is very good. Ramiyah is off to a very good start. They bring something fresh and new to the gospel scene. This album will apeal to those people who want to have fun in christ. Most of the song's are very well produced and just plain fun. Another album that i would recommend is Out Of Eden's Love, Peace, and happiness.

5.0 out of 5 stars I think I'm in love with these girls & their ministry, April 29, 2004

Superb! Personally I don't think you can have your freshman album to be any better than they have. They got something for the young, and something for the old. Mostly teens like me, will fall in love with this album.

I have had the honor of listening to this album. I was not disappointed. These young ladies can sing. They have a fresh R&B sound. The lyrical content is great. The tracks are HOT.
I think they are off to a good start.
Get the album if you like to dance.

I first heard this group when I bought Spirit Rising 1 & 2 & I fell in love with the song entitled Turn It Out. Their 1 & only CD is great. They sound alot like Virtue & T57. I don't know why they have disbanded, but I would buy a 2nd CD from this group if they ever got back together.

I love this CD. It is great for a person that is more into hip-hop and r&b than gospel. The production and arrangement on this album are perfect. The stand out song is "Waiting" and "Power From God."

5.0 out of 5 stars A Very Enjoyable Gospel Album, February 21, 2007
This review is from: Ramiyah (Audio CD)
I really enjoyed this album. My favorite songs included "Here We Go (Holla)", "The Reason", "Turn It Out" and "You Never Left Me".

I will comment that I felt each girl representing an element (one is hyper element, one the soul element, one the street element, one the glamour element) to add nothing to the project. However, the final interlude is right on target.

Is my first album that I have ever bought, and I am glad that it was, because it is a classic. The only thing negative about these girls, is nothing, because they keep it real.
