Not bad, I liked Live Aus Berlin much better, but if you are a Rammstein fan, buy it. Know that 5.1 is not available on this DVD. It is on the menu, but if you select 5.1, you will get a message that says 5.1 is not available. Instead, you will get multi-channel Pro Logic.

The audio is not done well, levels change from track to track. I expected more given that Live...

First it was October. Then December. Now it's finally January and I actually have Lichtspielhaus in my hands. Oh sweet lord. Any Rammstein fan needs this. And even if you don't like Rammstein, buy it anyway. I've been a fan for years now and I cannot see any true fan without this DVD.

The DVD itself is packed full of eye candy to keep you entertained. The entire interface is 3D, which gives it a very high-quality that is hard to come by when you get a DVD based on a band. Overall, the DVD is 3 1/2 hours long. Amazing. There's the videos (which are works of art), live videos, making of the videos, and a few other things stuffed in. Thus begins my review:

THE VIDEOS:
If this DVD has only the music videos and nothing else, it'd still be worth every penny. This isn't some "lets sing along" style video, its a performance. A 5 minute movie if you will. No other band has been able to incorporate their music into their videos with such passion. Whether it's Ich Will or Du Riechst so Gut, you'll be amazing the whole way through.

LIVE FOOTAGE:
Without seeing Rammstein live, you're missing half of the Rammstein experience. Their show is like no other, with enough fire and pyrotechnics to set a large city ablaze. Lichtspielhaus has videos from 1996 to 2001 as well as MTV Performances. The earlier shows are interesting because it shows how they really started and what their earlier visuals were. In my own opinion, the Mutter tour was better. The songs had more feeling, the crowd more into it, and the whole "technological" feeling to it was amazing. For people like me, they have "Links 2-3-4" and "Ich Will" live from the Velredome. Amazing.

MAKING OF:
When you think of Rammstein, you may think they're angry all the time (maybe like Till). It's these making of videos that show who Rammstein really is and how they act outside of the tours and music. The "Making of Ich Will" was easily the best video there is because it tackles many of the problems the public has given them. There's also "Sonne" and "Links 2-3-4" as well as other ones like "Du Hast". Very nice.

MISCELLANEOUS:
There are also a few commercials put into the mix. The best is, of course, "Achtung! Wir Kommen". In this video, it shows how Rammstein has spread all over Europe. The other videos are very short and are just short clips promoting their albums.

Overall, the best DVD I own. If you like Rammstein, you need this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lichtspielhaus Kicks Arsch, December 25, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Rammstein - Lichtspielhaus (DVD)
This DVD is put together well. The menu animation is top-notch. On it you will find the complete catalog of music videos released up to and including Mutter: Du riechst so gut, Seemann, Rammstein, Engel, Du hast, Du riechst so gut 98, Stripped, Sonne, Links 2 3 4, Ich Will, Mutter, and Feuer frei! - in that order; neither censored or edited and in their original aspect ratios. The only technical drawback is in the first two music videos where a few lines of distortion appear at the top and bottom of the screen, but are still watchable nonetheless.

Du hast, Du riechst so gut 98, Sonne, Links 2 3 4, and Ich Will also have their own, very interesting Making Ofs with interviews contained in them as well. You can access what subtitles you want for the Making Ofs in either German, English, French, Spanish, or Japanese.

Live material includes: 1996 "100 Jahre Rammstein" Berlin Arena (Herzeleid, Seemann), 1997 Philipshalle Düsseldorf (Spiel mit mir), 1998 "Rock am Ring" Festival (Heirate mich, Du hast), 1998 "Live aus Berlin" Wuhlheide (re-edited version of Sehnsucht), 2001 "Big Day Out" Festival Sydney (Weißes Fleisch, Asche zu Asche), and 2001 Velodrom Berlin (Ich Will, Links 2 3 4). These are all professionally done. The sound is 2 channel, PCM stereo instead of 5.1 surround for all of them, but the quality stands on its own. Then you have the "Achtung Blitzkrieg!" TV Trailer which just goes to show the height of Rammstein's international success.

Total time: 210 minutes.

5.0 out of 5 stars now that's what i call entertainment!, May 16, 2004
By
This review is from: Rammstein - Lichtspielhaus (DVD)
oh boy where to start? this dvd is simply amazing. it's how you should do a dvd except for the menu but it's only a minor iritation and does not detract from the goods whatsoever. so what are the goods? 3 and a half hours of 100% pure rammsteiny deutsch goodness. you get all of their videos except for "das modell" which they absolutely hated. now the majority of these videos haven't been seen in the u.s. on tv before and it's pretty much something you'd want to buy just to see. the audio and video are fantastic, especially for those who use a ps2, if you always use the +2 volume for dvds, you'll have to turn it down to the standard as the volume is that good...i mean just watching to the "rammstein" damn near blew out my speakers.

for the videos...you get these:

"du reischt so gut"-the original version that is pretty much a live version of the 'herzeleid' album cover.

"seemann"-a great video that somewhat plays with the lyrics correctly. the video is beautiful and it never gets old. it shows the till on a boat with the band dragging it through sand with shots of a woman walking alone.

"rammstein"-this is not the 'lost highway' edit of the song, but the full version from 'herzeleid'. its footage of them playing live from the '100 jahre rammstein' performance with clips of 'lost highway' throughout.

"engel"-the first venture into the tarentino inspired video realm. its their version of 'from dusk till dawn'.

"du hast"-the song that got them noticed in the states. this version has some new stuff that wasn't shown on mtv. still classic.

"du reischst so gut '98"-a new revamped version that involved werewolves and richard wearing a dress. something worth seeing.

"stripped"-previously only visable on the "live aus berlin" dvd. it's footage of past olympics and stuff. it contains some of the most beautiful shots i've ever seen (the massive amount of women doing that arm fanning thing...wow).

"sonne"-their rendition of snow white rammstein style.

"links 2-3-4"- the video about ants hehe.

"ich will"-a sequel of sorts to 'du hast'. it's them robbing a bank for the fame.

"mutter"-now this one is hard to explain...all i can is...there are 2 till's.

"freur frei!"-them playing live with clips from 'XXX' in it.

now the making of the videos give great insight into what rammstein is and how some of the videos were made. its nice to see them in pure deutsch and not overdubbed in english. for me, the german language is beautiful and cool sounding and thats what gives rammstein such a unique edge.

the live footage is also amazing and you get the following:

100 jahre rammstein: 'herzeleid' and 'seemann' live. 'seemann' is great here in this performance.

philipshalle: 'spiel mit mir'

rock am ring: 'heirate mich' and 'du hast'. this pretty much stripped down rammstein minus the telephone and pyro for 'du hast'. they can still put on a great show minus it.

live aus berlin: 'sehnsucht'...now this is not the live version from 'live aus'. its more the album version with the crowd screaming along and you can sorta hear the pyro going off during it. its a bit odd cuz i miss the crow singing along.

big day out: 'weisses fleisch' and 'asche'. man, this one is great. its one of my favorites.

velodrom: 'ich will' and 'links'. this is also another favorite. 'links' is amazing here. also, i think this version of 'ich will' is perhaps the same live version on the 'ich will' single.

there are even trailers for 'du hast', 'mutter (the album)' and 'links 234' along with the 6minute "achtung blitzkrieg!" now what the hell thats a trailer for i don't know. but it's a quick retrospective on the history of rammstein. if someone knows whats the deal with this...please tell me hehe.

but with all this amazing good stuff...theres one down side. the menus. visually, it is amazing. as for how to use them, kinda slow. on some dvd players, it won't go anywhere. but it's nice to know that they included a warning about this in the booklet in the case.

all in all this is a fantastic dvd and more bands should do more dvd's just like this because it's something thats amazing and the replay value is virtually endless (i've seen it god knows how many times and i'm not sick of it yet).

5.0 out of 5 stars Bloody Amazing!, April 27, 2004
By
This review is from: Rammstein - Lichtspielhaus (DVD)
Rammstein has done it again with this wicked awesome DVD! It features all of their breakthrough videos "Du Riechst So Gut" to "Mutter." So just that makes it a must have for any Rammstein fan. It also features "making of" documentaries of selected videos: Du Hast, Du Riechst So Gut, Links 2-3-4, Sonne, and Ich Will.

The live performances are truly amazing. The video clips taken from various performances from Rammstein's career show the evolution and the awesomeness of this truly wonderful band. The performance of "Seemann" and the Big Day Out clip are the most memorable.

The only downside to the DVD is the lack of live performances that aren't already featured in the music video section. The menus are cool and the interviews are a real treat. The sound quality is awesome, but the DVD is not in 5.1 surround if you're into that sort of thing. I highly recommend this DVD and I say it's a must have if you're a Rammstein fan.

4.0 out of 5 stars "Oh, my sweet Lord, it's RAMMSTEIN!", January 25, 2004
This review is from: Rammstein - Lichtspielhaus (DVD)
At long last, American Rammstein fans who aren't net-savvy enough to download videos have the whole R+ video catalog at their fingertips with "Lichtspielhaus." As a fairly new Rammstein fan, I was anticipating this DVD avidly because I'd never seen any of the videos, and it definitely did not disappoint. I'd heard about the various videos, most notably "Du Hast" and "Ich Will," but even the straight performance videos have a nice edge to them. In addition to the videos, there's also a couple of hours worth of "the making of" various videos and live clips from shows around the world. On the live menu, only the shows are listed, not the songs that will be performed, so it's a bit of a surprise bag. Fans will note that there is a clip from "Live Aus Berlin," which was released on DVD here a couple of years ago, but it's actually treated as more of a performance video, as the song performed is taken straight from the CD! And, being a red-blooded heterosexual woman, all the excellent shots of a shirtless, greased-up Till Lindemann automatically add stars to my rating, heh heh.

Diehard fans will do a bit of nitpicking--it was heavily rumored that "Lichtspielhaus" would contain the video for Rammstein's cover of Kraftwerk's "Das Modell," but it doesn't, nor does it contain a live video of the infamous stage working of "Buck Dich" that got Till and Flake Lorenz arrested a few years ago. I had some difficulty in getting to the section that allowed you to add English subtitles (a must if you want to view "the making of" section and don't speak German), but that was my only complaint. Otherwise, it's an excellent investment for Rammstein fans, not to mention a great value. Even if you've seen the videos over the net, you'll find "Lichtspielhaus" light years ahead in quality--and it'll keep your appetite whetted for the new CD that should come out this year.

I have liked Rammstein for years. I first heard of the group while living in Freiburg im Breisgau (Germany, South) back in the early nineties, and they have never disappointed. This DVD "Lichtspielhaus," is especially well put together, from the opening GUI, to the options, to the OUTSTANDING video cuts and editing. For example, in the interview section, the band talks about playing "Ich Will" in Amerika. Well, when the lyrics "ich will euere Hände sehen," they want the audience to raise their hands. Oh well, that is just a tangent, sorry, I love German/Germany. Even the instert is quality, I scanned all sides and made an excellent photo event/wall hanging....supreme! You will like it. You will love it, and you won't understand the cuss words unless you speak German. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Got to feel the fire!, September 30, 2004
This review is from: Rammstein - Lichtspielhaus (DVD)
Rammstein's "Lichtspeilhaus" is one of the best music DVD's I've come across. I was surprised to see that not only does this DVD have them playing live, but it also includes all of their PVs- and the "making of's" for five of the videos. I have to say that the content of the DVD is incredible and the interviews are interesting, There's quite a lot with the band (Yay!) and what the directors say are interesting enough. Entertaining bit in the making of "Du Hast" where Till tells about their experiences with fire... most amusing (and painful sounding). The concerts are on fire- literally; I've never seen such large explosions on stage, it's thrilling, and includes such lovely moments as in the live version of "Heirate Mich" where Till walks around on his knees pawing at the guitarists and pleading "Heirate Mich?" (Marry Me). Of course I have to mention that the DVD menu is a bit long (and difficult!), but I suppose it only helps to build up one's anticipation. Also it freezes up sometimes and gives you codes to move faster (they sort of work). Anyway, it's a good buy- well worth it- especially for fans (it's only $11!). I wouldn't recommend this video for the sheltered though (or those who are younger because of the explicit content), only those who really like gothic music and can stand the disturbing images (and pyrotechnics) contained in the DVD. Ho Ho, Let's Go!

5.0 out of 5 stars Rammstein mein fuehrer, June 19, 2004
By
Matthew King (Toronto, Canada) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Rammstein - Lichtspielhaus (DVD)
Rammstein's blend of pounding industrial music and horror theatrics is on full display in this, the second DVD the band has put out. The first, "Live Aus Berlin" detailed an amazing live show in Berlin. "Lichtspielhaus" is more a compilation of selected shows and videos that serves as the perfect introduction to people wanting to get into Rammstein's music.

VIDEOS: All 12 of Rammstein's videos are included in all their stunning imagery. Rammstein's doom and gloom music has always been best suited for the visual and these videos are all amazing. The highlight of the bunch has to be the gothic-tinged 1998 version of "Du Riechst So Gut", one of the best horror-themed music videos ever.

MAKING OF: A section detailing the making of 5 selected music videos. Details the production efforts of those involved in the making of the videos. Throughout, many commentaries are included and we get to learn lots about the band, its history, the philosophies behind their music. The most educational of the sections.

LIVE: Live footage selected from 6 of their concerts throughout Germany and Australia. All 6 concerts cover 2 songs a piece. This is probably the best way to witness Rammstein's evolution; the first concert in 1996 has rather humble stage histrionics. By the time the 4th concert rolls around, Rammstein's high-tech gadgets are on full display, such as the singer's lazer eye, fire boots and enough explosions and fire to alert the national guard. The adoration that the german crowd (who are incredibly diverse in age) have for their national heroes is remarkable, they all seem to know the lyrics for every song, most evident when they sing along to the haunting "Seamann".

The videos and Making of sections are great but it's the live footage that sent me into a couch-jumping, pillow-throwing frenzy. Rammstein are simply put the most amazing live band in existence at the current time. Apparently, almost everyone in Germany listens to them, people of all different ages and interests. It's a pretty cool band to have as a nation's musical pride, especially considering I live in a country where the national pride is Céline Dion. This is an incredible package for fans of the band, delivering all the goodies in a massive 210 minute filler-free DVD. I'd never come across such a quality DVD at this type of bargain bin price before.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you like Rammstein, why don't you already own this?!?!?!, June 9, 2004
This review is from: Rammstein - Lichtspielhaus (DVD)
As an American who's a fan of the German band Rammstein, it's near impossible to get quality copies of their collection of videos and to see their concert performances. Live Aus Berlin was a great taste of their live show, Lichtspielhaus however gives you all of their videos throughout the entire span of their career so far, at an incredibly low price also!

Where to start however? It's simply amazing, there videos are simply amazing and ground breaking. The imagery in some of them is incredible considering how they're just a rock group (don't get me wrong here, rock groups just aren't really known for their inspiring videos). The interviews with the memebers were great, its not that often you get to see interviews with them to be honest. Plus all the concert footage.

The only real problem I had with this was that I found the menu to be a bit hard to navigate through, but it could ahve been a lot worse.

So go out and buy this...NOW!!!!
