5.0 out of 5 stars Still a favorite, June 16, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Ramona Boxed Set (4 Volumes) (Ramona the Brave, Ramona the Pest, Beezus and Ramona, Ramona Quimby - age 8) (Paperback)
I read these books as a child, and loved them. Ramona deals with childhood tribulations (fear of going to the principal's office, worrying about her family when her father loses his job, having to play with her friend's little sister whom she detests) that most children experience in some variation, and so a child can identify with her as they read and feel reassured by the fact that they are not the only one who has gone through these things. Also, many of her mischevious adventures are so entertaining and wonderful (for instance, when she makes a "toothpaste cake" in the bathroom sink using the entire tube of toothpaste). Even as an adult, I still find myself reaching for these sometimes to be reassured by an old friend and to re-live a childhood comfort.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Book!, March 22, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Ramona Boxed Set (4 Volumes) (Ramona the Brave, Ramona the Pest, Beezus and Ramona, Ramona Quimby - age 8) (Paperback)
This book is a good book for all ages because it's funny and it reminds you of yourself and your siblings when you were young. Once you read this book you will want to read all the other Beverly Cleary books. I recommend this book to all the people out there who likes reading Beverly Cleary books. I rate this book 5 stars because it's a funny and good book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Timeless Childrens Classics for Young and Old, June 28, 2001

This review is from: Ramona Boxed Set (4 Volumes) (Ramona the Brave, Ramona the Pest, Beezus and Ramona, Ramona Quimby - age 8) (Paperback)
I grew up loving Ramona books and 20 years later I still love and remember them. Ramona is every girl-her worries, troubles, joys are true of all girls. She is funny, tricky, a worrier and a fun seeker. She loves her family and as she goes through life we get to learn the lessons with her, watching her fall as well as succeed-making us laugh all the while. These books are something that young and old can enjoy together-they stand the test of time.

5.0 out of 5 stars growing up with Ramona, December 5, 2005

Ramona is a typical little girl with a big imagination and lots of personality. She has an older sister, loves books on trucks, has a best friend Howie, and has her fears mixed with excitement as she enters school. Cleary did a wonderful job writing about Ramona and her interactions with family and friends. Cleary started Ramona at preschool and I believe ended her last book when she was about 10 (this collection leaves Ramona at 7). I grew up reading her books and understanding Ramona to be so much like me with scrapes, new haircuts, new toys, learning to write, and getting into lots of misunderstandings. The best thing about Cleary's Ramona Quimby is that she is the typical girl growing up- part tomboy, part saver of the world, who exasperates her sister, amuses her family, and wants only to be respected and make friends. I love that Ramona's family is middle class, she plays with her neighbors, has a babysitter, and wears overalls and shorts instead of dresses and mary janes.
I recently bought this collections for my cousin who is a 9 year old tomboy and loves to read. I would recommend these books for any child. I really like also Beverly Cleary's Ralph Mouse and Henry Higgins series too.

I have always enjoyed Beverly Cleary's books. The Ramona Quimby books are entertaining and captivating to the young audience. I would highly recommend Ramona Quimby to any parent or elementary school teacher that wants to give their child a great book to read.

My six-year old boy is a huge Ramona fan. We've read about six of the Ramona books and I just ordered the four we haven't read yet. Even though right now we don't have new ones to read, he's making me re-read him ones we've already been through. They are his favorite books. And I can see why. Ramona is so real, with emotions, reactions and feelings that little kids can really relate to. Beverly Cleary is a masterful writer for children.

Beverly Cleary and her Ramona books helped me to love reading. Even as an adult *I'm 20*, I've bought the series because of the good memories I have reading them. A must for anyone with elementary aged children, this along with the "Little House" series will teach them the joys of reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ramona Quimby Age 8, June 30, 2000

This review is from: Ramona Boxed Set (4 Volumes) (Ramona the Brave, Ramona the Pest, Beezus and Ramona, Ramona Quimby - age 8) (Paperback)
Every morning when I was a little girl, my mother sat at the head of our table with seven eager faces waiting patiently for her to start our daily dose of reading. Most often they were Beverly Cleary books. I remember laughing so hard sometimes, I had to brace myself before I fell to floor in hysteria. The funny antics of Ramona Quimby related to my everyday dealings with brothers and sisters and school and anything else life can bring a young girl. I thank my mother for taking those few minutes away from her very busy morning to show us that she cared enough to instill in us the importance of reading. I am now a mother of a 5 yr old and a 3 yr old. I have started reading Ramona the Pest to them both, though not as faithfully as my mother. It is worth those few minutes to see the smiles and giggles coming from them. You can never go wrong with Beverly Cleary books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Should be on every young girl's shelf, March 10, 2006
This review is from: Ramona Boxed Set (4 Volumes) (Ramona the Brave, Ramona the Pest, Beezus and Ramona, Ramona Quimby - age 8) (Paperback)
All of the Ramona books are timeless classics that no little girl should miss. I read them over and over as a child, and still leaf through Cleary's treasures at the library!

Beverly Cleary is a truly quality author. Over thirty years later, I still fondly remember Cleary's characters: Ramona, Beezus, Otis Spofford and Ellen Tebbits.

Choose any one-or all of them-as a special gift for a daughter or beloved niece. They're a perfect way to begin a true love of reading!
