Belgian Euro low-techno,

This review is from: Ramones Forever: Int'l Tribute (Audio CD)
I have six CDs of other performers covering the Ramones, not counting ones by former Ramones. And there's another in the works from Rob Zombie and friends. That's a tribute to the Ramones' song writing. This CD is not bad. The fairly low rating is simply because the performers are not the Ramones. You should get all the Ramones' classic records before buying any covering performances like these. Start with their first four albums, reissued by Rhino. "Too Tough to Die" and "Mondo Bizarro" are also very good. Of the 22 songs on this disk, 13 are from Belgium. I think the original recording company was Belgian, that's why. As the liner notes indicate, the favored style is something called "lo-fi," apparently sort of a style of Euro techno with remixing and other studio alterations of sound. It's not particularly daring but sounds OK.

A Breath of Fresh Air,

This review is from: Ramones Forever: Int'l Tribute (Audio CD)
There has been so many Ramones Tribute Albums that it's hard to keep track. Though this one is the best. If you want to buy a Ramones Tribute Album, It should definetely be this one. The Other ones (especially the new one with Rob Zombie) are just full of no talent Rock Star hacks who just want to copy Ramones songs, because they could never write anything as good as them. You must remember, that the Ramones were not Rock Stars. They were able to write such great songs because they weren't famous, and they didn't care about being famous. They were poets, and artists. The people on this album are not rock stars either. They are Underground Punk Rawkers. They have the same hearts that the Ramones did. So they are able to play just like the Ramones (unlike Rob Zombie, Static X, and Marilyn Manson, Who are on one of the other tribute Albums.)I strongly suggest that if you are looking for a Ramones tribute album that you buy this one. But if you do not have all the Ramones albums, you should definetely go out and buy those first.

There have been several tribute albums to the Ramones released, and this is one of them. The bands here are not just punk, but a 21st century mix of styles from lo-fi electro-pop, to punk, ska, lounge to all-out weirdness. Most of the bands are from Belgium. To be honest, many of the performances here aren't very good. Golden Green, 5 Cent Deposit, Bad Preachers, De Bossen, The Marky Ramone Group, Cortina, The Huntingtons and Ramon Da Silva give good performances, but the rest are pretty mediocre. Not one of the best Ramones tribute albums.
