5.0 out of 5 stars 1,2,3, 4!, December 7, 2000

This review is from: Ramones (Audio CD)
hey all,

I wholly reject anyone that says The Ramones didn't start Punk. C'mon. Sid Vicious was waving their debut around saying he wanted to sound just like them. The "brothers" Ramone graced CBGB'S littered stage in like '74, and their self-titled debut pre-dates any UK Punk band.

The Ramones! Junior High...I still have ADD and their two minute blasts brought a smile to my face. True, there are some bad songs("I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend") but for every one there's two tracks that redeem the band. Johnny Ramone didn't care if his creations only had like four chords, the boy just wanted to rock! and The Ramones early sets were only 17 minutes long...and if you wanted more? Tough!

Clearly outliving their Punk peers The Ramones have earned their place in history. I don't give a damn about the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame...Rock doesn't need one! and The Ramones don't care if their leather jackets are inside the building that does Rock a great disservice. It was a great experience seeing them. Their audience was surprisingly diverse...original first generation Punks, teens, pre-teens, and my father wearing his sweater vest dancing along to their rendition of Bobby Freeman! ha ha.

Dismiss any band that sounds just like The Ramones(death to The Queers!), this album is the real deal. slap it on the stereo, and dance along! oh, and pickup a guitar! the songs are easy enough to learn.....now go start a Punk band.

The Ramones will be missed, but certainly not forgotten.

5.0 out of 5 stars One Of The Best Punk Albums Of All Time!, February 17, 2001
By
This review is from: Ramones (Audio CD)
The Ramones debut album was the first punk album. One could argue that the albums by MC5, the Stooges and, most notably, The Velvet Underground were the first punk albums. Although punk would not exist without these three bands, none of these bands are actually punk. The Ramones are truly the first real punk band. The Ramones self-titled debut ranks, along with The Clash, London Calling, and Machine Gun Etiquette as one of the greatest punk albums of all time. All 14 songs on their debut are short, catchy and full of energy. That is waht makes the Ramones so good. The standouts on this album are Blitzkrieg Bop, I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend and a great cover of Let's Dance. This is the Ramones best album and is essential to any punk fan.

4.0 out of 5 stars How it all started, September 1, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Ramones (Audio CD)
By the time it was released (1976), this CD was known as "the record that you can play at the loudest volume, at 3 o'clock in the morning, and that ends before the police arrives". Well, it is 14 tracks in just 29 minutes. This record thought Sid Vicious, Paul Simonon and lots of other heroes how to play their instruments. "Blitzkrieg Bop", "Judy Is A Punk", "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend", "Chainsaw", "Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue", "Havana Affair", "53rd & 3rd", "Let's Dance", "Today Your Love, Tomorrow The World", and the planet Earth is a funnier place to live...

5.0 out of 5 stars Ramones rule...., July 18, 2001
This review is from: Ramones (Audio CD)
Firstly, this album is great and you should buy it. That's pretty much common knowledge.

Secondly: "An unprecedentedly perfect musical expression of punk attitude, effectively conveyed without cuss words. The experience of listening to this album gets increasingly rich with each successive listen.

BTW, listen with care because this can fire you up for fighting."....

5.0 out of 5 stars Ramones rock!!, January 9, 2001
This review is from: Ramones (Audio CD)
I'd recommend this cd to anyone into punk, since these guys invented punk rock. Even people who are not that much into punk (like myself) will find it enjoyable. These guys seriously know how to rock and roll, and the lyrics are hilarious!! Do not call yourself a fan of the Ramones unless you have this CD. It is essential. My personal favorites are "I Don't Wanna Go Down to the Basement", "Blitzkrieg Bop", "Beat on the Brat", and "Chain Saw"

This album is a straightforward, succinct, turbo-charged, aggressive, heavy, sometimes poppy, three chord surf and rock music. An unprecedentedly perfect musical expression of punk attitude, effectively conveyed without cuss words. The experience of listening to this album gets increasingly rich with each successive listen.

5.0 out of 5 stars A true, true MASTERPIECE!, April 16, 2010
This review is from: Ramones (Audio CD)
I bought this album after listening to the Anthology CD. The only thing I can say, is that this CD was

worth the time I'd waited! When I first listened to this CD, I was blown away. Every time I listen to it, I think "Damn! This album is a MASTERPIECE! Those guys are the best band in the world!".

Today, I own every album of the Ramones, and I must say, EVERY ALBUM THOSE GUYS RELEASED IS AWESOME!".

The songs here are very fast, short and have really funny lyrics (for example: "...I used to make a living man, pickin' the banana..." - Havana Affair).

Trust me, after you'll listen to this amazing one, it'll make you start looking for the other albums.

This is one of the best records I've ever listened to, and it's absolutely one of my all-time favorites. And this is without a doubt, the best record by the Ramones.

P.S. Try to get this version over the remastered one.
