4.0 out of 5 stars Rampart
This game is fantastic! If you enjoy strategic games instead of blowing up everything in sight, then this game is for you. This game will appeal to everyone from 3 to 300.

1.0 out of 5 stars Straight port of Classic Arcade Game
NOTHING extra, just the game that used to cost a quarter. The Graphics were made for a big screen and don't translate well to such a small screen. If you played the arcade version this will disappoint you.

Dear Potential Buyer,

I found Rampart for the Gameboy color to be a challenging, yet very enjoyable game. Heck folks, it's a lot of fun! If you are like me, a good breakdown of the game is always helpful.

Graphics: Very smooth animation, crisp graphics, and good use of the gameboy's variety of colors. Remember, this is for the Gameboy Color only!

Gameplay, I.E. what makes it fun: The Challenge of repairing your castle is difficult enough, but you also have to battle land troops as well, whose only design is to keep you from rebuilding in time. Destroy them first if you can!

The two player mode is especially fun. Just make sure your castle is surrounded by the end of the allotted rebuilding time, or your dead meat, matees! You have to be quick to win this one!

Learning curve, I.E. How long does it take to learn the game: About an hour or two depending on the age of the player. They went out of their way to make it easy to play, reading the manual always helps too!

Over all, I had a lot of fun with this game. And adults, animated violence is very low. The sound could have used some work, it is very difficult to hear and understand the voices, sound is somewhat crackly. The purchase of an amplification system for the Gameboy is strongly recommended. If you want to know more about this game check out Midway's website. Overall, I enjoyed playing this game!

5.0 out of 5 stars Rampart - some strategy, some action, all fun!, December 3, 1999

Rampart is one of the best hand-held games I've ever seen. For those who remember the arcade edition, it's faithfully reproduced (obviously no trackball, though), and it works beautifully.

For those who haven't played it, Rampart is a classic game of destruction and rebirth. It's got that magic combination that really clicks - definitely a timeless classic.

I would like to thank whoever ported Rampart to the Color Gameboy. Your gift to humanity will not be forgotten (by me, anyway).

If you've ever played this game before, then you know what to expect. So to you folks, it's just what you think it's going to be like! For those who have never played Rampart it goes a little like this: Build city walls around castles to stay alive and gain more points. Then place cannons. Then prepare for a frenzied round of battle! After the round, you do it all over again! I'm not sure when or how you win, but you just do. Even though it sounds simple, it's quite entertaining. I cannot play for more than a half hour or so at a time because it just gets too difficult. When it says GAME OVER, you just feel like you need a break. That, however, doesn't stop me from playing again later. Overall, the simple tetris like strategy for adults and blow em up to bits action for the kids make this a game everyone can enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you liked the arcade game..., March 17, 2001
This review is from: Rampart (Game Cartridge)
I haven't seen any port to Gameboy that so matched the arcade game as well as this one. I rented the game, expecting the worst, and am so pleased I'm buying a copy. Even the shouting voice telling you to "Surround Castle to Stay Alive!" is right where it 'sposed to be. Sure the graphics are small, and that direction pad is nothing like the trackball of the original, but the gameplay is just right. If you're like me, and still think the best arcade games are gone -- shucks, I dated my wife by dropping quarters together in arcade machines -- but you somehow have two or three gameboys sitting around when the little rugrats are asleep, I think you'll be happy with this game.

This game is a blast! You get some cannons, you get a castle and then the boats attack. After a timed period of battle where you are trying to sink ships while they are trying to knock down your castle walls, you get a chance to rebuild, but you have to do it fast. This is one great strategy game. It's not good for little kids, but adults won't be able to put it down!

This is a great game for the game boy. It looks great, has a lot of action, and requires a quick mind to set up and defend your castle. It is quite hard though, even on easy settings, and takes a long time to master and get good at

Please do yourself a favor and exit this page right now. This game is the worst game on gameboy. There is no point to this game beyond the simple arcade bit. ...
