3.0 out of 5 stars A BANK ROBBER TRYING TO GO HONEST., September 10, 2008
By
As a western reader with at least 26 books on the shelf by T.V. Olsen wish I could be more generous with the stars, but this book for me rates only 3 stars.

The story starts off very good, interestingly, but soon becomes almost another formulaic western with much of the action fairly predictable. The story mostly plays itself out on rangeland and ranches of New Mexico but with a never-give-up lawman still tracking the guys, Wes Trevannon and his now dead partner, who robbed the bank at Cedar Wells.

Becoming the Kaysee ranch foreman, and at the same time falling in love with another lady rancher-Calla Waybeck, does nothing to throw Sheriff Jans Vandermeer off the bank robber trail. And the law does eventually win out but with a twister of an ending.

Theodore V. Olsen wrote many good western stories, and a few that can be classed as true classics, but this novel is at best only a middle of the roader. However, that still puts it in a class of pretty good western stories.

Don't take my word for it though, read this one for yourself and see if it strikes you better than it did me.

Semper Fi.
