Not what the other review claims, April 3, 2003
This review is from: The S/M Ranch: An Erotic Novel (Pleasure Corporation) (Paperback)
I think the earlier reviewer is a bit confused. This is the third of Luc Milne's Pleasure Corporation series. More than in the two previous novels the characters are developed and the idea of why people might be interested in such a ranch and the "fantasy of SM" is raised. There is a very wide range of sex highlighted in this novel and shown through the eyes of four "new recruits." I was not thrilled with the first book in this series but S/M Ranch shows growth in Milne's abilities as a writer. I hope he continues to improve.

NOTE: Amazon has linked two quite different books: The S/M Ranch by Lu Milne, and Surfer Sex by Rusty Winter. HERE BOTH ARE REVIEWED
REVIEW OF THE S/M RANCH by LUC MILNE.
The Spread is a full working ranch, but it is also something more, a theme park for pleasure aimed at satisfying the most ardent S/M adherents, a place where the fully trained and highly skilled staff aim to please guests in every way possible. Young, hung and honed boys of all types, from the meekest of subs to the most dominant of masters serve in a variety of specially equipped facilities to turn the most extreme fantasies into realities.
We follow four of several new recruits as they are gathered and delivered to The Spread, their initial assessment and their training in the arts of S/M. Of the four we concentrate on Will and Jesse, both of whom are at The Spread as an alternative to a term of less pleasurable custody. Will, an angry young man wants to take his revenge on anyone he can get his hands on; and Jesse, a docile and endearing boy who wants only to please. As we follow the day to day workings of The Spread and learn of all the delights on offer we also observe the mellowing of Will and the growing relationship between him and Jesse. We get to know many of the permanent staff and their special attributes, and we see how the new recruits prove themselves as true subs or masters, and as a few turn out to be a pure "sado" or "masco". We watch too as a few guests act out their unique fantasies with aid of the ranch members.
The Spread is part of the same group as Milk Farm
The Milk Farm, and The S/M Ranch is almost as good a Milk Farm; it is well written although lacks a little of the sparkle and humour of the latter, but is certainly and engrossing read in more ways than one!
REVIEW OF SURFER SEX by RUSTY WINTER
Two short, supposedly autobiographical Stories.
The first of the books title relates to the author's few week spent in Australia, where while sitting on the beach he meets a young surfer and life-guard Dave who entices him into the changing rooms for some fun. The next day Rusty is back on the beach, and this time Dave is accompanied by Brent, but still encourages Rusty to join them for a shower - and a lot more. Brent and Rusty really hit it off, and the rest of Rusty's visit is spent in Brent's company, but while Rusty declares his love for Brent, Brent won't even admit that he is gay, presenting a stumbling block in their relationship.
Half the book is given to this story, but almost its entirety is devoted to their couplings, or extended couplings with various others including three teenagers they discover experimenting on a darkened beach, and where they proceed to provide much welcomed instruction. There is otherwise little to the story, and the repeated intimacies become a trifle repetitive. It is a shames that more was not given to the complexities of their relationship.
The second story "Kev", is far more interesting. It describes the time when at the age of fourteen Rusty spent some weeks with his uncle in northern Australia and struck up a friendship with an Aborigine boy about a year older who works on his uncle's farm. The two boys are soon sleeping together and enjoying discovering many delights, and it seems to be with the approval of both his uncle and all the Aborigine workers on his uncle's farm.
There is much more to the story "Kev" than their intimate explorations, it as much about their growing relationship, and touches a little on the Aborigine traditions.

By A Customer
Two autobiographical novellas from "Down Under" are featured in this book: The first "Surfer Sex" details the very passionate love affair between the author and Brent, a young Australian life-guard. The second, "Kev," is a moving, poetically told account of the author's adolescent relationship with an aboriginal boy in Australia's untamed Northern Territory.
