Katherine has masterfully captured the charm and grace of the Ranch House style as she pictorially and verbally guides the reader on a wonderful tour of various ranch houses throughout the country.

The author shares a variety of information and ideas, depicting the elegance and ease, the tradition and diversity which can be present when you creatively design and decorate ranch houses.

What I liked the best was the blending of visual delights and historic and practical information that Katherine shares. She is clearly both knowledgeable and passionate about ranch houses and has created a work which elevates the ranch house architecture to an art form. She articulates and demonstrates the flexibility of the style and champions a design which has previously gone unnoticed.

This book is a must for designers and decorators, realtors, and anyone in love with Americana.

I highly recommend it.

I am still amazed at the amount of ideas and all of the inspiration I continually receive from this book. It is upbeat and sophisticated and warm. It doubles as a reference book for ideas about my home - and my own house isn't even a ranch. Hopefully my future one will be! And will be as wonderful as the ones I see in this book. I love the amount of color photos in the book. You really get your money's worth. I hope that other people can experience the fun, inspiration and originaltiy that this book is chock full of.

Though it would look lovely on anyone's coffee table, Ranch House Style is more than a "pretty face." It contains fascinating information about the Ranch House, meticulously researched and expertly written. Each selected house is a study in taste and originality. The photos are sumptuous and the presentation artful. Well-recommended for anyone with a ranch--and anyone with a coffee table.

This book is way beyond anything I expected. It seems to have more photos than most coffee table books and they're all of beautiful rooms and outdoor scenes that I want to live in. There are a lot of full page pictures and they're a lot prettier than anything else we've seen lately in other books, and we're major consumers of these books now that we have a new house we're getting together. We have a two-story house and already we have a long list of ideas from this book to do that we're excited about for inside and for our yards. This is a really smart and useful book.

What a joyful, creative, and well written book. I started reading in the book store, then kept reading because the story of each of the houses is like a very good novel you can't put down. The houses are all special. Some are beach houses with red vintage convertibles and some in the west have real saddles at the kitchen counter, it's that much fun. The owners of the houses sound extremely interesting and so do their ideas on how they brought their different ideas to their houses.

I really enjoy this book. My family spent years in a ranch house and this book lets you know about the easy part of living on one floor and the fun of living in them. I didn't know there were so many different styles of ranch houses. If you have a narrow idea stuck in your mind of what you think a ranch house is going to be, if you can open up and be open to all the different styles of them this book is really great. I appreciated finding out about the history of ranch houses and remembering the one we lived in. I didn't know they had such a great history so I'm glad that information was there because now I really get it. It was like a bonus that added to the book for me. Why not learn something along the way. The pictures of all the houses are really nice, especially the outdoors ones.

This book is on my coffee table and every time some one comes over they start flipping through it and then they start reading it and become so engrossed in it that my husband and I can barely get it out of their hands so we can socialize! This book is irresistible because it reads like a good book and at the same time its beautiful to look at. We've got it filled with post-its of pictures we like and want to do to our house, and just like we heard the author say on TV, the back is full of paint colors and resources that we plan to use a lot of. We've gotten so many ideas from this book for the inside and the outside of our house. It's fun to see which house our ranch house is most like, and its really fun to see so many different kinds of ranch houses and to hear the story on them from the owners. It's very personal, useful and beautiful. It's bargain for how much we use it and enjoy it.

I was a little bummed out about living in a ranch house . . . until I found this book! It's given me tons for ideas for transforming my place. Great photos and all kinds of different looks. The history part is interesting too. Who knew "ranch" was the all-American style? I'm falling in love all over again--with my house!!!

Not only does this book describe the history of the ranch-house in very readable prose, but it's full of decorating ideas that anyone can use. I learned a lot--and came away inspired to try some of these ideas out in my own home. A very useful book, whether you own a ranch house, or not.

When I read the article this weekend I wondered if the book could help my two bedroom house I just bought. It is dated and plain but it's in a good neighborhood and was affordable. I found a house in the book that isn't too different from mine, and I am excited because it has the colors I like very much. I do not have the Hide Away fella's budget for furniture, but I am going to do blue and white or yellow and white to make my place brighter. I am going to do my kitchen like he did that will be my first big project. His ideas for making things seem newer is good like I'll repaint my china cabinet and when I can get help I will put the two twin beds together like he did. His front porch and screening is good too.
