Not sure why they split tha bottom but worked around it.

This allowed me to get some good fork protection agaist stones and bugs that can ruin the fork seals without having to completely disassemble the fork tubes.

Length is about 12" extended, maybe 4" compressed.

I used these for impromptu fork boots on my BMW K75S. Rather than disassemble the forks to put the on the right way, these were so inexpensive I just slit them up the back and slipped them on. They look great and do the job.

I use to use these all the time in the Motorcycle biz for fork boots. Now the company has ruined them for that by slitting the bottoms. I cannot understand the logic behind this...a once great product is now a piece of crap.

This is a great quality shock boot. A soft rubber compound, not a stiff plastic. It's fairly generic for sizing, the lower will zip-tie over 2-3" diameter shock body easily. Length is about 12" extended, maybe 4" compressed. Excellent value for $4.

I put these on my 2005 BMW F650CS, I used a ziptie at the top and the bottom. I also put a few air vent holes on the back of each boot. It works great!

They look the same, fit just as well and cost 1/4 what some others charge... Chances are, you'll have to trim these in some way, but unless you get lucky with some other brand and get exactly the size you need, that is going to happen anyways... why not save some $ and give these a try? I'm happy with mine. Used on a 78 CX500, lowered 1" in front.

These Rancho shock/fork boots are well made, and have GOT to be the DEAL of the century!

I actually bought 4 of these for use on my 1982 Suzuki GS850GL Motorcycle. The first set i split with sissors along one of the mold seams to keep my cut straight, and used a tightened zip tie at top and bottom of my front fork tubes. The middle sections i added 3 looser fitted zip ties to close the seam up a bit, but not so tight as to impair the fork action. The split seam was positioned facing the motorcycle driver, to keep the road grime out.

This allowed me to get some good fork protection agaist stones and bugs that can ruin the fork seals without having to completely disassemble the fork tubes. The 2nd set of boots i'll reserve for when i actually have to disassemble the forks for a seal change at some point.

The cost of these is SO reasonable you won't mind cutting up a pair to get some immediate protection on your motorcycle fork tubes.

....Nice!

cheers,
Joe T

I put these on my 2002 Sportster 1200, I cut off the bottom where they had slit the collar and used a ziptie at the top and a painted hose clamp at the bottom. I also put 3 air vent holes on the lowest part of the back of each boot with a leather punch to keep the boots from blowing up over a hard bump.

No Idea why they slit the bottom collar but for the price I don't mind cutting the slit part off and using a hose clamp. Although if you look at the product pictures you can see my bike, I think if I were to do it again I would cut an extra pleat off so the shocks had less slack on my sportster.

This is not an expensive item but it can help out with many applications. Whether as a replacement part for truck or auto suspension or steering systems or as an add on item for unprotected motorcycle front forks, these boots do the job. Unlike some other manufacturter's stiff vinyl/plastic units, these Rancho units are well-made out of a flexible, almost rubber-like material. The mold seams are aligned and almost unnoticeable. As is typical, they come with ny-tie fasteners for lashing the ends to your application. This is a good product at a good price.

I used these to fabricate cheapy fork boots on my 2004 harley xl. cut down one side, slipped em on, super glued them and zip tied the top and bottom and hid the tie in the "wrinkle" works awsome put over 9k miles on the bike since then and no signs of wear or even fading (and they are out int he sun 24/7) I'd say Ive used/abused them much worse then the shock application they are made for and they held up great.
