Bought this for my husband as he is an over the road truck driver. This is the first mapping equipment he has ever used for his truck routes. And, "technology" is not always his friend! But I have to say he is able to understand this GPS real well. He likes all the featurs on it and has been able to adjust things for his use without any problems. He especially likes the "speeding" alert when the spead changes on the highway. As we know, truck drivers don't need any of those! He was concerned of it's size (7" screen) and blocking his view in the windshield but has not had that problem either. All in all....he is really liking this gps!

I purchased the 710 in March and I am now on my third unit. The first unit kept locking up with an application error and would not dock with my computer. The second unit would not get a gps signal anywhere (even standing in my front yard pointing it towards the sky on a clear night). The third? It worked for almost two months before it started acting up. It has started locking up after a couple of hours of use. It appears to be getting hot from being mounted on the windshield in hotter temperatures, but I'm not certain that is the cause. Granted Rand McNally has replaced the two previous units with no hassle, but if you don't or can't trust the unit to function properly it's not worth having. That covers the functionality, now the programming. This unit has plenty of bells and whistles and they are pretty cool, but this is primarily a gps unit and should provide practical and accurate routing. This is not always the case with this device. It has frequently routed me out of the way, through roads that should be avoided and not recognized roads that have existed for years. The multi stop function has on several runs routed me past stops forcing me to back track. I have tried several different device and route settings, but the results are the same. It seems as though Rand McNally spent a great deal of time on the bells and whistles at the expense of the primary function and operation. I don't recommend buying this unit. My experience with the Rand McNally Tech Support is the only reason I gave this product a star.

I have only had the 710 for a short time and it is great. Even if you know where you are going, it gives you the street names as you approach your destination. This is especially useful at night. The speaker is loud enough to hear over a loud engine and the screen size is great. It has not directed me to any streets that are not adequate for a large truck.

I've had the 710 for about 2 months now, I haven't had any problems with it except it locks up sometimes when you put in a trip. We have truck installed GPS's and they are okay using the copilot program along with a rand mcnally atlas. I think truckers are looking are something that technology hasn't created yet, common sense doesn't come with a GPS, a GPS is a tool to help you along the way....Will this GPS route you on no truck streets, yes it will along with any other GPS. I has never routed me under a low bridge, in fact it warns me of a over head clearance violation of any street that may at some point have a low bridge. There is a reason your Qualcomm or Driver Tech dispatch info gives you directions. If you get lost or stuck somewhere it's no one's fault but your own, it's has got me out of 10 times more crap than it's put me into...so no GPS will prevent mistakes due to drivers not pre planning. Well worth the money just for the tools on it, points of interest are worth their weight in gold, but this GPS will not replace common sense.

I've had mine for a year and here's what we got. It tries to route be down non truck routes while telling me the truck route is illegal for me. This is such a bad problem that even Interstate 25 in Denver Colorado is listed (according to this GPS) as a non- truck route and will route you through the city instead. There are several drivers within our company who own one and more than half (of about 50) have crashed to an un-recoverable state. Our company representative said that Rand McNally informed them that the GPS was not designed to say on for a long period of time. Really? it's a truck driver GPS. We have one driver with a $2400 dollar ticket due to this GPS routing him down the wrong road. The companies response was to update the unit. I've had mine for a year, I never noticed one update that corrected functionality, they only seem to keep messing the tools. I want a GPS that routes, if I wanted tools I'd buy software for my computer.

My suggestion is to by a nice Garmen. My one rated for cars actually routes me better than this one rated for trucks.

I bought one of these and have had nothing but trouble from them. For this kind of money you should get a quality product. The first one I bought worked well for about two weeks then the power button fell off. I returned it and received a replacement. The replacement worked for about six weeks before it crashed. I was in the middle of New York City and ended up getting lost and in an accident. I tried to return it but could not get a replacement. When I finally got it replaced two days later, the replacement worked for about 100 miles before it crashed. This is definitely a product you do not want to buy if you work East coast routes. It is definitely not a product you want to buy if you expect to pay your hard earned money for a reliable, workable GPS unit. On the other hand, I found it easy to use when it was working and prefer the program over the cobra version.. However, reliability to me is much more important when I am shelling out 500 dollars. I can get use to a program. However, I cannot afford to pay that kind of money for a GPS unit that is so unreliable and not worth the money, it would be much better suited for a cracker jack box prize.
