This book is a gem!,
This review is from: Randall and Hopkirk Files (Pb) (Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased)) (Paperback)
Why would you buy a book about a little-known television series? If you liked the original Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) from 1969, you might be surprised to know that there was a brief revival in 2000-2002 in the U.K. Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimore starred as Marty and Jeff in two series with a total 13 X 50 minute episodes on BBC 1. It also starred Emilia Fox as Jeannie and Tom Baker as Marty's ghostly mentor Wyvern. The book, 'Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased): The Files', is a companion-piece to the newer series -- and very well done it is. Andy Lane has managed to use a spare writing style, lots of photos and a wonderful sense of design to provide a fitting legacy to this brief televisual encounter. The book is an oversize paperback which is both comfortable to read and easy to store. If you liked the original series, are looking forward to the revival being offered (soon?) on DVD, or are curious about how a ghostly detective series can really work, then buy this book. It was rated a '10' out of 10 by TV Zone magazine. You won't be disappointed. |
