5.0 out of 5 stars Music for lovers....
I ordered this CD immediately after seeing the movie on HBO. I was entranced by the 'city' feel of the music, especially the love theme.

I'm on my 5th pass through and am enjoying every minute...even the 'latin' turns.

Listen to this CD with someone you love..with the lights down low....and a bottle of wine...and plenty of time.

Enjoy!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not much better than the movie
I listened to the CD a few times over a period of several weeks and was enjoying it. Yes, it was background music, yes, it was a bit repetitious, but it was ok as stand-alone music.

I decided to review it and started listening to it a bit more often. Then, a funny thing happened. The more I listened to it, the less I liked it. Generally, over time, I will grow to like...

5.0 out of 5 stars Hauntingly excellent score, May 22, 2000

This review is from: Random Hearts: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I have to disagree with anyone who dismissed this excellent film and score. Harrison Ford's performance was one of his best yet, and probably most realistic and heart-felt. Dave Grusin's score is top notch alongside The Fabulous Baker Boys. It captures the pain and obsession Ford's character is dealing with trying to figure out if his wife was pulling an act on him after all he felt for her and for how long. What a powerful connection between film and score! I think this score comes to show what a master Grusin is at creating beautiful yet painful jazz that not only perfectly captures the depth of the film, but also stands as an enjoyable listen on its own. Excellent performance from the quartet too! Haunting and beautiful! Get this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars The original "midnight music" score., March 7, 2003

I have most of Mr. Grusin's cd's and this is undoubtedly one of my favorites ("Two for the Road"-Mancini is the other). Regardless of how you did or did not like the movie, I think the music is terrific. The score also was uniquely suited to the film. Watch the movie without paying attention to the music and you find you can't ignore the extra layers Mr. Grusin added. I also love his ability to write great latin jazz as in "Playa Del Sul" and Aqui En Miami". I'm married to a jazz musician, daughter of another and mother to two more. We think this is NOT elevator music. This is not a hot jazz album with lots of improvisation, but a a great jazz score. Mr. Grusin continues Msncini's tradition of using the best of jazz in scores. I am grateful for his talent.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dull film, great soundtrack, October 21, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Random Hearts: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
One of the few good things about the film was its soundtrack. Random Hearts was unbelievable and lethargic, with Harrison Ford barely making an effort at acting and Kristen Scott Thomas doing great with anger and anxiety, but going awkward when attempting warm emotions. The film might have been helped by a livelier soundtrack (it needed something to inject suspense, though a better screenplay may have done the job); however, Grusin is always good and this seems like one of his best -- sensitive, meaningful jazz, wasted on a story that couldn't support the soundtrack. This CD should stand on its own, music probably written for a much more romantic film and characters with real chemistry. Suggestion: Play this CD and dream up a fantasy in your head to match the music.

I saw the movie & HAD TO HAVE the soundtrack!!! Dave Grusin is GENIUS!!! What a classy, jazzy, mysterious soundtrack Dave concocted for this WONDERFUL movie!!! Besides evoking memories of a beautiful & exciting film, this music puts you in instant 'cocktail party mode' with its fabulous mix of classic jazz, Miami-jazz, along with 'The Folks Who Live on the Hill' by the one & only dynamo Diana Krall!!! Dave Grusin has done so many amazing soundtrack scores - but THIS ONE is my favorite of all!!! Quick!!!! Where's the martini shaker???!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This soundtrack is one of my all-time favourites. I personally love Grusin's piano score, especially "Phone Call Soliloquy" and "Cabin Fever". A great CD for jazz lovers.

4.0 out of 5 stars The music is the best thing about the movie....., October 24, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Random Hearts: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
Even Harrison Ford couldn't pull this one off. I didn't care for the book but thought for sure that the movie couldn't be as bad... I was wrong.... but the music was TERRIFIC !!! Went and bought the soundtrack after I got out of the movie and I'm glad I did.

4.0 out of 5 stars Think film noir..., July 22, 2000

If you sat through the movie you owe it to yourself to get the lovely soundtrack. Although the same themes repeat (as in all soundtracks) they are so haunting its great to hear them several times, with subtle variations. I kept thinking this would be the perfect soundtrack for a film noir; but its not a perfect world. One track by the wildly overrated Diana Krall (like Mariah Carey, she looks better than she sounds) but the rest is super.

Although I have seen the movie when it originally came out, I still have not taken the time to watch it again in the comfort of my living room. Hopefully my wife and I will watch it this weekend if we are not too tired. I would definitely deal with the vendor again.
