One member of the Jackson family never got its props...., December 31, 2005
This review is from: Randy & The Gypsys (Audio CD)
Back in the summer of 1989, I picked up this CD on the strength of Luv Thang, which was getting major play on the pirate radios, due to its retro old skool sound.
This CD proves that Randy has mad talent, and if this CD had been better promoted, who knows. The group consisted of the bad man himself, Pepe Tynes, Kris Kellow, Cece Worrall, Baba burns, Jara Harris, Jeff Harris, and Cornelius Mims. The CD kicks off with the poppy sound of `Perpetrators', with its high kicking, snares, and drums. `Luv Thang' follows soon after, and, as has been mentioned earlier, this slice of `rare groove, was big on the airwaves of London town, as Randy duets with Pepe.
`Love you Honey' follows. And this could easily fit into the `new jack swing' category, and is one of my favourites (being a new jack swing head).
`You got a lady' is next up to bat, and deals with Randy getting blanked by a Lesbian! This is a funky/poppy affair. `The love we almost had' is a slow ballad, which is quite beautiful, its haunting background vocals, over a piano base, with Randy displaying a mature vocal performance. I don't know what Randy was thinking when he recorded `Gigolo', with its horrible sounding keyboards, and off key vocals.
`I can't wait' is a very nice mid tempo affair, which has a very summery feel to it.
`I need you' is Light, sugary ballad that again, is done well, show casing Randy's strong vocal prowess. The CD closes, with 'Not because of me, which is a full blown epic ballad, that builds, and dip, to a final musical finish.
I enjoy this CD, and it shows the talent that Randy has, but which remains unfulfilled.

Randy Jackson's Hidden Talent, October 2, 2010
This review is from: Randy & The Gypsys (Audio CD)
I was amazed when I got the album and got a chance to play it! I couldn't stop playing the album and enjoyed about every song expect for 2! I just wished more people could see the talent Randy had and possibly the rest of the Jackson family has besides Janet and the late great Michael Jackson! I truly admire the whole family but was truly amazed and shocked from what I heard from the youngest brother Randy! I wish he at least got to have success with his OWN music to the level that Jermaine had! Jermaine my not been the most successful or got as big as Janet was and of course Michael was the biggest of them all not just of his family but of music industry as whole! But I wished Randy would have had at least some hit songs and not be just looked at as another Jackson doing music-I persoanlly think he was more talented than Jermaine, plus Randy was able to make his own music at the level as the singer Prince is able to do. People always compared Michael to Prince-yes the similarities are there as far as being Unique and broke the steorotypes of black men-but Randy match the similarites of Prince with the talent in his music he created ALL himself! I hope more of you go check him out and support the other Jackson members (well...Im not too sure about LaToya)but I would support ones like Rebbie, Tito and Randy most defently!

This CD was slept on!, July 16, 2009
I had been looking at videos on Youtube when I came across Perpetrators. I was like, "Oh snap! I forgot about this song!" I bought the single way back when (that was on cassette tape), so I thought I would search for the cd. Unable to afford the CD, since it's now a collector's item, I was pleasantly surprised when I found it here in mp3 format at a reasonable price. I'm telling you, this cd was slept on; BIG TIME!
The first track is "Perpetrators" and it has a sort of edge to it that I'm not used to seeing from the Jackson family. Luv Thang features the vocals of Karen White and it is very smooth and romantic. Love You Honey has a hint of New Jack to it. Although, I must say that I don't care for the song Gigolo, the whole cd is something that you can actually listen to while driving or working.
To whatever record company produced the CD, "What the heck happened?" They really fell down on the job when it came to promoting this cd. (Although I think this was when Randy got into that car accident.) This CD is worth buying and listening to.
