5.0 out of 5 stars Randy's ride home., January 7, 2012
This review is from: Randy's Ride (Kindle Edition)
Randy's Ride by Barbara Bloomquist is a book that is sure to rock your world. Randy's Ride will take you on a journey you will not soon forget. You will gain a much deeper understanding of what life is like for a young, adopted man trying to figure out who he is. You will gain a much deeper appreciation for our young people as they strive to find their place in life and be less prone to judge them for where they are at in life.
You will also be brought into the heart of loving parents who love unconditionally their son as he leaves home trying to find out who he is.
If you have forgotten what it is like to be a struggling teenager trying to find his way in life or how much a mother loves her child, no matter what choices he makes, then Randy's Ride is a must read for you.
It is with great pleasure that I highly recommend this book to you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Insightful Story, June 7, 2011
This review is from: Randy's Ride (Kindle Edition)
Randy's Ride is a very down-to-earth, realistic story about a young mans journey toward maturity and self-worth. Randy, the main character, was adopted young and feels disconnected from his family and himself. He is unsure about who he is and what he wants. So Randy goes on a "ride" and finds with every situation and person he encounters, he get closer to understanding himself. I am not adopted, but I have found this book to be very informative. The story not only teaches you about life's curve balls, but also about the struggles some adopted children might go through. This was a very addictive story for me; it was very hard to put down. I would recommend this book to everyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Randy's Ride Review, March 28, 2010
This review is from: Randy's Ride (Kindle Edition)
Randy's Ride is a lovingly written story with much appeal for all readers. It provides a sensitive portrayal of emotion, personal growth and self-realizing acceptance. Randy gains much insight from pivotal characters met throughout his journey. His evolution is interesting and informative.

During his journey, Randy's Mother writes such poignant letters, never knowing whether he is safe or if she will see him again. Her pain is powerful, and her love and hope never waiver.

This is an engaging story and one you will think about long after you have finished reading. The author really captures the depth of alienation and the joy of understanding and appreciation. This story highlights an adoptive family's experience, but it also resonates with universal issues that often occur in parent/teenager relationships.

5.0 out of 5 stars poignant story, February 28, 2010
This review is from: Randy's Ride (Kindle Edition)
Randy's Ride is a well written, poignant story which will make even a grown man wipe a tear from his eye. It depicts life at its best - a confused young man able to see the good in his life with the help of circumstantial events which bring good intentioned people into his life. The events and people involved lead Randy to what he is searching for. An uplifting story with a message for us all. After reading the book, parents will want their teenaged and adult children to read it also. Highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lessons When You Feel Unwanted or Unloved, November 5, 2009
This review is from: Randy's Ride (Perfect Paperback)
Perhaps "Randy's Ride will have a broader audience than envisioned by the author and publisher.

This extraordinary--no, perhaps this ordinay story--touched me personally, although I was NOT adopted. I was the only child of a single mother doing her best to survive following her divorce in 1938. She moved to Detriot from Virginia when I was four years old to be in the same town as three sisters. From the age of four to the Fall of 1947 I was farmed out (on two occasions, literally)to relatives, two different farms (Michigan and PA)and to an orphanage. My last residence away was for seven years at a military school in Baltimore. I never felt as though I belonged to a family. Insular self reliance comes to mind.

It was not until I had my own children that I began to question mother's motives. I, in fact, questioned her off and on over the years and usually got, "I did the best I could". A deep sense of resentment developed when I could not reconcile her behavior.

Barbara Blomquist has given me the knowledge and insight to not only FINALLY forgive but to deeply understand my mother's selflessness. I had indeed been on a self discovery trip for all those formative years in a variety of loving and protected enviornments, not planned but out of anguished need. And from that early life came the unconscious knowledge the world did not owe me a living, but that as Barbara Blomquist has written, "Life Is What You Make It".

I had forgiven mother personally a short time before her death (we had lived thosands of miles apartfor decades). Those were words and they helped her. As a cosequence of Randy's Ride, I feel in my heart those words.
