After one year....,

This review is from: Rane TTM 57SL Performance Mixer with Serato Scratch LIVE Software
I've had this mixer for one year now and it's served me well. I did have to send the unit in for servicing twice already.. once to repair a faulty B1 button and twice when the first servicing bent an LED during repairs.
An inconvenience, but RANE's customer service is superb. When the warranty goes out, I'll be singin' a different tune, but for now, it's perfect. Looking forward to picking up a newly released 'Video-SL' plug-in very soon, where you can use this mixer for mixing video. You can do so in demo on the SSL version 1.8 software currently, but to export the video full screen for any sort of performance, you need to purchase a license. -Missingtoof

NOT the perfect piece of hardware - REALLY lacking,

I bought this mixer because I heard good things about Rane. I can't say I'm very impressed. The LED card that illuminates the lights in between the two channel faders fell off down into the unit within the first month. I had to open up the box and glue it back on myself. The faders are AWESOME - they are like butter, and SO precise. However, the rest of the mixer does NOT reflect the quality of the faders...
First, the headphone volume knob; it goes from silent to painful ear-splitting volume with barely a touch. This thing is the OPPOSITE of precise. It comes in only in one channel or the other up from silence, and then practically deafens you if you don't exercise extreme caution when turning it up. I have NEVER turned this particular volume knob up past about 25%. If I did, I would surely destroy my headphones and ears alike. The knobs on this thing feel flimsy and cheap. Next, the buttons; oh, where to begin. They are GARBAGE. UTTER TRASH. I hate - ABSOLUTELY HATE - the buttons on this thing. They are short-travel buttons, which are great when the hardware is quality and they actually work. On this thing, that is not the case. Most often, they don't register the key-stroke, even though you can feel the "click" of the button. Then, you have to mash them in and hope they respond. Once you have clicked it a couple times, then you mash on it, and then it double-registers. So, you'll hit the button a couple times with no response, then you FORCE it down and it will toggle on/off in the same key-stroke. FORGET about queuing with these things. 100% unreliable. I only ever use them to get back near the beginning of a track, which is always immediately followed by some manual correction. All the buttons suffer the same poor performance and quality. These are the types of problems I would expect from far cheaper brands/mixers. Pros: faders Cons: buttons, knobs, price, overall quality of hardware, build-quality, pretty much everything but the faders, NOT professional quality hardware THE PRICE OF THIS MIXER IS NOT REFLECTED IN THE PRODUCT. Very expensive mixer with some really crummy features. I would NOT buy this mixer again, nor would I recommend it to others.

Great Sliders and Connections,

I have owned the ttm57 Rane Mixer for three years and I have fun every time I use it.Pros: The Mixer works great with Serato and SL Video. I like the loop adjustment ease, and effects. Once I got used to how it worked it was easier to map in the dark. I used all of the connections on the back and I think they work great. The Mic input works better than my mic mixer. I have two Technics mk1200s connected to it for vinyl control with Serato. I like the feel of the vinyl, and the easy integration with analog. I often play sets with both, and I like to have digital on one side and analog on the other, and it sounds great. The Headphone fader is also an excellent feature, and must have. Cons: The buttons are small, I would rather have lighted buttons, especially for the dark DJ sets. I also wish the Headphone jack was higher on the front of the case due to it hitting my flight case.
