About the Author

Kim Williams Justesen lives with her husband, three children, two cats, and one dog in Sandy, Utah. She holds a degree in English from Westminster College of Salt Lake City and a masters in writing for children from Vermont College. She teaches English at a private college in Salt Lake City.

Illustrator Judy Newhouse is a graduate of Moore College of Art in Pennsylvania whose work ranges from cartoons to medical drawings. She lives with her artist husband in a log house in Chester Springs, Pennsylvania.

More About the Author

My name is Kim, and I live in Sandy, Utah. I grew up in Utah and have lived here my whole life, but I've been lucky enough to travel across the US, to Canada, Mexico, Europe, and the Caribbean. I have three mostly grown kids, one very old dog, and two kitties. My husband and I like camping, golfing, and snow shoeing together. I also love crocheting, knitting, reading, and eating chocolate.

I graduated from Cottonwood High School, went to the University of Utah (go Utes!), got my Bachelors degree from Westminster College, and my Masters degree from Vermont College of Fine Arts. In addition to writing, I work at a college as the Associate Director of Career Services where I help students find their dream jobs.

Ms. Justesen's "Hey Ranger" series is informative, funny and well researched. The text is chock full of interesting facts as well as amusing anecdotes garnered from real life park rangers. It is a must for classroom use and an ideal addition to family trips.

We just got this book for my son who is 5. We are planning a trip to Yellowstone next year. He loves it! It has lots of great info and even lets the kids color in the pictures. The only complaint I have is what it doesn't say about the Yellowstone Volcano. My son happened to hear that there is a volcano under Yellowstone and has been terrified of it. While the book was accurate in that you never know for sure when geologic events will take place, I do wish that it would also add that most likely there would be some indication before a massive volcano eruption, and the chances of it happening on your family vacation are very small. We're hoping to be able to convince him of this before next summer!

It has good written material but the pages are not colored so it is very blah for that aspect. I may get some colored pencils to color all the pages so the kids will have more interest in having it read to them. They live near Yellowstone so I want them to know as much as possible for 5 yrs and under before going.
