Book Description

January 1, 2009 Harlequin Historical (Book 927)

She prefers guns to gowns--and riding the land to dancing at balls. So heiress Gabrielle Price heads across Texas's most dangerous territory to break her unwanted society engagement. Only, her biggest problem isn't outlaws and killers. It's a rugged, relentless Texas Ranger....

With a killer to catch, Hudson Stone has better things to do than escort his commander's spoiled, socialite daughter. But his fiery charge is as irresistible as she is off-limits, and to protect her he'll risk his reputation, his life--and his heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Ah, Hello Texas?.....I'd like one Ranger to Go Please."........, July 28, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
When Hudson actually encounters Gabrielle (Bri)-it was not as he or she intended-(and kissing him then running away without telling him who she is ...........) Well,....this brings on a whole new level of "spirited Heroine" and I must admit I really liked it.

She is certainly not your average 19th century frontier lady,ah-huh, and raised to be somewhat of a tomboy by her Ranger Commander father then scrappy hand to hand trained by a street orphan Named Benji she knew years ago, Bri is determined she doesn't need one of her father's Ranger escorts to get her to him. So she rescues then hires 3 young orphans pff the street (in memory of Benji) and disappears into the night leaving Hud wondering what the Hell he got himself into the next morning when he goes to collect her.Her power hungry, philandering and rich ex-fiance Powell (don't even feel sorry for this rat bastard)- mixes things up 20 ways to Sunday for Bri as well.

When Hud catches up to her and the boys, found traveling with an acting troupe, he is relieved she's ok but mad as hell at her deception that has cost him time and humiliation. They travel together towards her father's Ranger camp. No simple trek is this-with outlaws tailing and flash flooding gulches, Hud has his hands full and then some....Well, I must say their coming together is actually quite nice, not trashy at all and never once draws from the underlying romantic tale.

Carol's witty dialogue will pull you in at the start (Bri will make you laugh!) and keeps it up between our Hero and Heroine as well as all the secondary characters. It's not deep or overburdoned with too much detail-a nice simple read that will make you feel like ordering your own Ranger to go.........

5.0 out of 5 stars A Romantic Adventure Story, July 20, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Lovely, lovely, lovely. A great combination of a romance with a feisty heroine (Bri) who forsakes her opulent, luxurious life for adventure on the frontier, where she meets a Texas Ranger, Hud, and has one adventure after another. A must-must read!
