5.0 out of 5 stars Good Luck putting Down this book
I purchased this book as I wanted a book consisting of Intriguing short stories to read before going to bed. What I found, that the stories presented by author Michael J. Meyer were so absorbing, I read the book in one night.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, needs an editor
This was a good book, but it is in dire need of an editor. It was a bit frustrating to read due to the grammatical and spelling errors abound, but the overall content was good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Luck putting Down this book, December 16, 2010
This review is from: Ranger Stories: True Stories Behind the Ranger Image (Paperback)
I purchased this book as I wanted a book consisting of Intriguing short stories to read before going to bed. What I found, that the stories presented by author Michael J. Meyer were so absorbing, I read the book in one night.

Most of us have no idea of the treacherous job and demands place on our Federal and State Law Enforcement Ranger staff. The irony of these stories is how "civilian" managers had no comprehension of the duties performed by their own Ranger staff.

You can try to read this book for the short story content, I wish you good luck. Once you pick it up I doubt you will be able to put it down.

4.0 out of 5 stars Park Ranger (Law Enforcement), February 13, 2009
This review is from: Ranger Stories: True Stories Behind the Ranger Image (Paperback)
This a pretty good book with short stories as to the experiences of a Park Ranger (Law Enforcement) who worked in a variety of places with both the National Park Service and the Bureau of Land Management. The experiences are very interesting and give accounts of many of the law enforcement duties associated with positions within the US Department of the Interior.

It should be noted that not all Park Rangers are law enforcement. In fact, not everyone who works in these parks are Rangers.

Very interesting book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Park Rangers Rock!, December 16, 2011

A short, roughly edited book that makes for easy, enjoyable quick reading, this memoir by former NPS & BLM ranger Mike Meyer provides a fascinating insight into the lives of those extremely capable folks who chose law enforcement as a career. He has a jaundiced view of agency managers and their inability to effectively manage LE rangers (if they'd never been one), but what he doesn't display is the usual urban cop's utter disdain for all and everyone as potential perps, and this is the salient difference between urban LE and wildlife LE officers - an ability to understand and accept people's personalities, quirks and weaknesses and not look down on them. Traveling and working with wildlife law enforcement rangers as I've been lucky to do in my own federal government career, I find them the best people in the world to know and work beside in the managing and protecting the natural, cultural and historic resources entrusted by the People to our resource agencies. Meyer shares his incident reports and journal writings, which could have used some editing, but the occasional typos, and errors in punctuation and grammar don't distract at all from the fantastic insights into a life lived on the edge.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun easy reading, January 29, 2007

A great insight into the true life of a ranger. Before reading this book I thought all rangers were tree-huggers and glorified tour guides. After reading this book I see that the life of a ranger is like that of a police officer only they get to protect the public in some of the most beautiful places on earth.

The book was good. The author wrote short exciting stories that he had encountered throughout his 30 year career. Quick read that gives good incite into being a ranger.
