Here you find some of the best graphics the Genesis ever produced. Not to mention it is an all around great action game with some truly great gameplay. I strongly recommend this seemingly unknown Genesis classic.

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent side scrolling shooter/platformer., November 17, 2004

Ranger X is one of those obscure titles on the Genesis that makes you wonder why it didn't get more attention. First off, it's a great shooter/platformer, with big levels, some tricky jumps and "well placed" enemies. >:)
Secondly, the game gives a nice challenge, but can be lowered down for newbies. If you've played any kind of the "generic" space shooters Ranger X should be familiar to you. It even gives you two modes of attack, free shooting with walking mode and straight shooting and better defense with merged cycle mode. That's right you get to transform/merge with your robotic motorcycle! It'll help you with the platforming aspects of the game, jumping higher, riding over dangerous terrain, ducking shots, etc.
Lastly, the graphics for this game are very impressive for a Genesis game. The beginning of the mission has a wire frame 3D model showing the objective. Now, that might not seem like much nowadays, but SEGA's machine was not exactly the most powerful when compared to the SNES. Also, the amount of enemies on the screen sometimes is great with no slowdown. The bosses are big as bosses should be, they are also nicely detailed.
This game is an excellent twist on the platformer, in the vein of Alien Soldier (also for the Genesis), although not as difficult or as long. If you still have a Genesis, buy this game you won't be disappointed.

This game is simply amazing, doing both amazing visuals for the genesis and great gameplay. I know almost no one who knows about this game, but it's truly a gem, a great game that's both challenging and fun, if you like good classics and are a fan of megaman and such, this game is a must have.
