4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good toy.
My 6 year old son liked this toy. I had a hard time with the initial set up but eventually got it. I couldnt figure out how to download missions but my husband had no problem at all. Even my 3 year old daughter loves the helmet. Overall, its a good toy for the money.

Sigh, I finally got this thing downloading missions but it was a bit of a feat. This review is really designed to help out anyone else under pressure to get the latest missions downloaded.

Sigh, I finally got this thing downloading missions but it was a bit of a feat. This review is really designed to help out anyone else under pressure to get the latest missions downloaded.

As an IS operations manager for an F100 company with 5 boys and around five PC's on our home network , i'm used to being the family support guy.
I'm not used to becoming so frustrated that I feel like kicking things.

Here is what you need to do to avoid frustration:

1.Find the software:
Took a while to find this , head first to this website http://www.bandai.com/powerrangers/
There you can find the application "2.0" which you can download and install.

2.Install the software:
Please make sure to install it under the profile that will use it.
I first installed it under my profile and then logged in as my 5 year old. Running the application that way will prompt a series of code errors.

3. Get the right driver:
Once you have it installed connect the helmet.
You may get prompted to allow the computer to search for a driver online.
This will fail. You need to choose those dialogs that will allow you to search manually.

If you accepted defaults you will find your driver here :
C:\Program Files\Power Ranger\Driver

4. Getting Missions.

The rest is pretty intuitive.
Launch the application and choose which mission you want and download away.

The toy is fun and it seems durable.
The online component really really needed to have been designed a bit better. Additionally it might have been better to allow for more than one mission to have been uploaded to the helmet at a time. While I have typed this review Mr. 5 year old has been back looking for more missions twice.

I'm now off to figure out his XO laptop. I swear to goodness next Christmas every toy will be made of wood. It was good enough for me punks !

It was fun for my 6 year-old for about a day (after he played the installed mission over and over again). However, when we tried to download the other missions on-line, it told us that the software was faulty! The mask also left a red mark on his nose bridge which took a couple days to resolve. He endured the discomfort, because he wanted to be the red power ranger so much! I would not recommend this product to a friend - very expensive and not worth the price!

1.0 out of 5 stars Christmas Horror, January 2, 2008

Frustrating is the answer you are looking for. Download missions is a horror. But worse is that the design of the heavy helmet does not stay securely on your childs head. I can not get it to stop sliding off all 3 of my son's heads. The cool missions tell them to "jump" and "dive". Real good fun when they were tripping and falling because they are trying to hold this thing on their head while running. The head strap is not sufficient to secure it to the childs head. It needs a good chin strap to assist it from falling off. A couple more drops and this thing will be broke in no time. What a waste of money, I could have done something better for my sons with all the money I spent on this toy.

I bought this for my 5-year-old son for Christmas. The first disappointment is that you can only download one "mission" at a time, and each mission is VERY short. So he quickly tired of a mission and then I had to download another. The other big disappointment is that the thing keeps coming apart. It's made of two pieces put together and they keep coming apart - I resorted to putting clear packing tape on the seam to keep it together for him. He was also disappointed because the TV commercial made it seem like you could also "see" the missions, but it's an audio-only device.

3.0 out of 5 stars SOFTWARE NOT INCLUDED!, December 23, 2007

The software for this toy is not included which is very disappointing for a toy with this high price tag. To top it off the website from which you are supposed to download the software from is constantly overloaded, so good luck ever even getting to download it. A very cool toy with a lot of promise, but Bandai did not think it through all the way. There will be a lot of disappointed kids on Christmas because the website was too overloaded for everyone who purchased the helmet to be able to download the software. This was a cost cutting tactic by the company so they would not have to mass produce the software discs but instead there are now a LOT of customers struggling to get the helmet to work.

I bought this for my nephew, he loves it! There was some issue with mission downloading, but the initial mission was fun enough to do over and over. They really need to fix the software thing though, other than that I would have rated this a 5

By the time I could figure out the downloads, my son was over it! He played with it for about five minutes and moved on. The helmet was heavy and the downloads are very hard to figure out. The instructions that came with the helmet did not follow what was on the website. I was very disappointed!!

My son seems to enjoy it. It is a very, very nice helmet!
It has various sounds/commands/adventures--he likes to also just press the buttons and listen to the adventures w/o even wearing it.
So, if it makes him happy--it makes me happy!

If your child likes to dress up or role play, then this is a nice helmet.
Very sturdy, adjustable strap inside--so a nice fit for little ones.
Not too big or heavy--The Clone Trooper helmet is a little larger, heavier--but that certainly does not stop him from wearing it--so the Power Ranger Helmet is a nicer/snugger fit & not so heavy for little kids.

For my grandson who was four for Christmas who loves the Power Rangers and he played with it so much and even wore it to bed the first night but would not go to sleep so his mom made him take it off with a crying fit. First thing in the morning it was back on.
