5.0 out of 5 stars Unique Celtic sound from the Maritimes..., December 18, 2000
This review is from: Rankin Family (Audio CD)
This is the first Rankin Family CD I ever got hold of, and as far as I am concerned, they have yet to surpass it.

In more recent recordings, the Rankins have leaned more towards pop, and even country on occasion. However, this album is a wonderful collection of Celtic music as interpreted by the Irish/Scots/British decendents of those who settled in Maritime Canada.

Classic traditional Irish laments mix with spirited jigs and reels, and there are glorious Celtic soundscapes in between. There is not the New Age quality of Nightnoise or Enya. This sound is more traditional, yet with the unique harmonies that happen only when siblings join vocal forces.

If you like the Celtic sound and have the chance to latch onto this CD, you won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Rankin Family, September 29, 2001

Brianna Stuerzl (Prince George, BC Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Rankin Family (Audio CD)
I've been a huge fan of the Rankin Family since I was fourteen--I'm still upset that they disbanded. I like nearly all of the songs on this CD, but the most beautiful is The Lament of the Irish Immigrant, sung unaccompanied by one of the sisters, Raylene. WOW! Raylene's beautiful voice brings tears to my eyes. To the Rankins--if you're reading this, you are incredibly talented!
