Fabulous family group from The Maritimes, November 23, 2000
This review is from: The Rankin Family [IMPORT] (Audio CD)
The Rankins debut record is fabulous. There is such a mix of music on it. From traditional Scottish songs sung in Gaelic, original songs by Jimmy Rankin to wonderful instrumental medleys. One of the most beautiful songs on the album is the 'Lament of the Irish Immigrant', a traditional Irish song written by Lady Dufferin. It is sung solo and unaccompanied by one of the Rankin women. Beautiful! I highly reccomend this cd to anyone who enjoys good music.

Lovely!, December 8, 2006
This review is from: The Rankin Family [IMPORT] (Audio CD)
Lonely Island and the Lament of the Irish Immigrant were so touching and the latter would move the hardest heart to tears.
Chì Mi Na MòrBheanna was the main reason why I bought this recording, and I ended up liking Chì Mi Na MòrBheanna, Lonely Island, Lament of the Irish Immigrant, and Loving Arms. The Rankins have an amazing talent... and the fact that these songs are sung at the bare minimum without that sleek, complicated quality that contemporary music has, it sounds fresh. It's quite charming.
